After me posting my question I would like to ask other runners what is your pace , keep in mind that I graduated only 2 weeks ago so anyone around the same stage as me thank you
Pace: After me posting my question I would like... - Couch to 5K
Pace
Pace is a wildly-varying parameter. My parkrun personal best is 5'04" over the 5 km, whilst my "long slow run" pace is about 6'30". My fastest 1km split is exactly 4'00". My C25K graduation run was obviously 30 minutes at a pace of about 6'00" (I cannot find the run in my (very old) nike+ account) but it was around 5km.
So (I guess like everyone else), I am all over the place for pace. You need to find your pace for your runs.
My calculations may be wrong but 11.29 a mile it says on Strava calculator is around 35 minutes for a 5K
🐌! x
Take care with the units! I graduated at the end of January and my pace was mostly a little under 14mins per mile at that time. Today I managed just a little over 13 mins per mile for my fastest 5km in 41minutes.
If you look at this poll of graduates you can see the sort of maximum distance covered during the thirty minute runs healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... from which you can work out people's maximum pace.
Comparing yourself is human nature, but unless you ask the gender and age and general physical fitness levels and ability/disability of each respondent, comparison to you in particular is pretty meaningless............. consider the twenty year old male and the 83 year old female.......oh, and one of them has chronic arthritis......
Compare your pace to that which you were doing prior to doing C25k....now that is meaningful and impressive.
Please bear in mind as well that someone 6’4” will cover ground much more quickly than someone of, say, 4’10” (like me !) 😂
I’m 4’10” too ! Little legs don’t cover the same ground a long legs 😂😂
I run around 14-15 minutes per mile aka slow
Lots interesting advice, the only one you're in competition with is yourself so just log your runs, sometimes you'll be on fire, other times a bit of a sluggish run, you'll see a pattern emerging. Just keep running!
your pace is yours Buddy, you’re brilliant. 👍
I’m about to start W9 😊
Currently running at an average of around 6:54/Km so I’m expecting about 4.3 K in my 30 minute runs and maybe 35 minutes for a full 5K
I’m happy at that given I have a history of knee problems from old sports injuries. I’m 58 and 18 stone so not doing too bad 😊
My brisk walk is almost as fast as my run - I don’t care, what matters to me is that I enjoy my running. 😃
Yes I’m the same and think I can walk uphill faster than I would run!!
Thanks for all the replies next week I'm going to go back to the ash running track where my c25k journey began and see if I can improve on my pace as my route just now has 2 longish hills in it and I am slower on these but they have also helped with endurance . Will see what happens 😊
I have no doubt you’ll be faster 👍
But even if you aren’t, it is something you can improve on if you want.
I will never be really fast - my trail running, conversational*/enjoying the scenery pace is 7 min/k (or slower) but I can do the local Park Run in just over the 30 minutes even pushing a jogging buggy.
*I do seem to have really good lungs though 🤣 Rubbish Achilles’ tendons, but good lungs!
I’ve only just got the Runkeeper app so only used it twice. I’ve just completed C25K. My average pace over the whole stretch including the warm up and cool down walks is about 8.5 min/km. my fastest running pace is 7.4. I put another few minutes of running in this morning just to get to the magic 5k. Took me 43 mins to do 5k- including the walks at either end.
A pair of weeks after graduating, I ran my first 5k in 36:38. Today, two months later, I'm doing 34:22.
I was trying to enhance my time and was not enjoying the run, but after a fantastic advice from
IannodaTruffe I forgot about time and start having fun. And guess what? I'm performing a better time without stress!
