So 2 months ago I decided to try and train really hard, lose weight and achieve my goal to run 5K in under 30 mins before May 16th, my 45th Birthday.
I read some running websites which also said that in order to achieve your goal you need to aim for a BAHG (Big Audatious Hairy Goal). So my BAHG was sub 28 minute 5K.
My Parkrun PB is now 28:32 so my goal is achieved. I have also lost 20 lbs in weight, just 12 lbs to go. But today I was away with work and brought my running gear. My colleague who used to be in the Army was with me and pushed me to achieve my new 5K PB and my BAHG. 27:18.7 that .7 is important. 😂
I feel it only right to admit that at the time I hated my colleague, but now of course I am very grateful.😀
I need a new BAHG.
So happy to be 2 months ahead.
Damien.

Thank you. From Couch, to C25K graduate, to injury couches and running breaks and back again to Sub 30 and onto BAHG. It’s been 2 years of ups and downs and back up again. All thanks to this C25K forum and program.
Ha, tell me about it. I run Parkrun with my 9 year old Son. We run along together until the last 800 meters when he drops the hammer and goes for it. He leaves me for dead. Bloody kids.😀
Thanks so much Decker. Great to hear from you. I know my legs can do it. I’m going to have to work on my breathing. That’s my next goal. Hope all is well with you.
Yes I’ve no doubt you are just getting started Damien! Maybe a sub 1hr 10k? Or a distance goal? Lots of options. As for me I’ve been getting in some winter training for a 30k race on Mar 31. It’s a bit of a slog at times but still very satisfying. Feels like it is around the corner.
Brilliant. I am sure on race day with atmosphere and race buzz the extra 5K even at the moment would be no problem to you. Although I have no doubt you will have hit that distance a couple of times by then. Wishing you every success with the rest of your training and on race day as well.
It’s taken me 2 years to get here from starting C25K. It takes time, a lot of time. Just stick at it, stubborn persistence pays off. It’s amazing what your body can do.
Thank you so much. I think i will build myself back up to 10K first and get an official time in a race. Then train to run a sub 1 hour 10K. I will also train for a sub 27 minute 5k. And I want a red 50 Parkrun T-Shirt this summer.
My legs might get me to a sub 26 some day. But I can’t ever imagine getting to 25. I might be peaking now. That 60 seconds is another world away. A sub 28 min Parkrun now would do just fine. Never thought I’d do this.
Whoo hoo you!!!! That’s such a speedy time and weight loss too. Whatever you are doing it’s really paying off. Happy sub 28 to you and looking forward to your next BAHG .
Thank you Wimborne. For the past 6 weeks I have been doing interval training which I worked into my 5K training runs. It’s had unbelievable results. But I think I might be reaching my limit now. But then again I thought I would never go sub 28. It’s largely psychological though .
