I fell badly the morning running on a bridle path, landed on my left side chest, for some reason i didn't put my arms out, anyway i am in agony when i breathe in and move and also I've just pushed my ribs and it felt like I've just popped a rib back in the middle ( which hurt) i know a lot can't be done for rib injuries but any advice please?

thanks

Oh dear, I’m sorry. ☹️ Go to your dr to be checked out. You will need to wait & heal before running again. - But the runs will wait for you. Take care. X😄

Even though there is no real treatment for broken ribs I think that you should be seen by a Dr. At least you will get adequate pain relief.

I hope you feel better soon. 🤒

Can't you go today?

You will be in for a rough night if you don't get some strong pain relief. 😬🤯😭

Go and get checked out.. walk-in centre or A and E... Go today...I have broken mine twice in my life..not running related..although the second time I did trip over a coffee table in the dark on my way out for a run !!! First time fell off a rock climb!

With the pain you describe...you may need to make sure there is no damage to the chest or lung and an experienced hand or an x ray will show that...then it is painkillers if needed and following the NHS advice..

Ouch... ribs hurt and there’s not much they do about it... ain’t I Mr Cheerful?! You need to know if they’re broken and that they’re not damaging any more of you... then they pretty much tape you up and send you on your way, unless times have changed. I had some pain for a few months, but I learned to not move the wrong way over the first couple of weeks. As for running, it would have to be really comfortably paced to not work the diaphragm and runs too much, but in really that’s how we should be doing this anyway. Hopefully you’ll be back soon and can run, but it’s difficult to know right now.

Oh no! Poor you.

I did exactly the same thing half way through my first attempt at C25K back in 2017. I didn’t get checked out but found out through a PET/CT scan (unrelated) later in the year that I had broken 3. I just took it easy (couldn’t even wear a bra for 3 weeks) but a month to the day I went out again and continued my running journey. 😊

However! DO get it checked out. - towards the end of 2017 I started getting some weird pains and sesnsations in the area where the broken ribs were. Despite GP visits xrays and scans nothing has been detected so it is assumed I have damaged the intercostal muscles and the pain comes and goes - I gave up running for 6 months which very very slowly seemed to help. I’m now back to running YAAAAAY! but keeping my eyes peeled for trip hazards plus when the pain starts to threaten I ease off. I hope you mend quickly - you’re probably much younger than me. 😜👍🏻

Wish you well 😊
