Completed my first Parkrun at the inaugural Parkrun at my local park. It was crowded with nearly 400 runners! My time was way below what I usually run for 5k - I am guessing this is partly due to the wait to cross the start line? Not having done this before I am guessing that the clock starts ticking as the front runners set off? My app did not agree with the time I recorded with Parkrun. If this is the case, I'm not going to stress it.
Enjoyed the camaraderie as I usually run solo but a bit too crowded for me. Will do it again but might wait until the novelty wears off.

Well done for braving an inaugural parkrun, they usually try and keep the numbers down so that the volunteer team get an βeasyβ intro, but there are loads of people who βtouristβ to get a result for run #1......
And yes the time is from βgoβ to when the volunteer time keeper clicks the stop watch as you finish.....
The numbers will probably drop, hope you give it another go, I love parkrun, best invention ever!
When Iβm going after a PB at Parkrun I tend to move up close to the start line and I takeoff at a faster pace than normal for the first Km. Thatβs my insurance time, I am usually then in a better position as the field thins out to pull the pace back a little. I keep an eye on my average pace on my watch and manage the pace against that as I usually have an average pace calculated prior to the run to ensure a PB time.
If Iβm not chasing a PB I just sit in the middle of the crowd and relax and enjoy the run and the atmosphere.
