I’ve done it again

For the third time since I started here, I’ve injured myself in my sleep. First an ankle, then a foot, and now I’ve pulled a thigh muscle. Still, at least it proves I actually own some thigh muscles ! Any tips for a quiet night’s sleep, anyone ?!!

I suppose its a case of having the running bug, perhaps the mind thinks it's running although you are sleeping. I am sure you will recover very quickly as you weren't actually running, just a bit of tossing and turning in your sleep.

Two weeks ago I suddenly woke up when I seemed to pull a muscle in my calf, it was sore for a few hours but once I got outside to go shopping the soreness had gone.

I’ve done that too, just as I woke up. Glad you made a speedy recovery !

I am sure you will also make a speedy recovery as well. 😊

Thanks AlMorr. Sure it’s nothing major. I’m taking a bit of extra rest and I’ll see how things go on Monday x

Stop running in your sleep.........

I don’t think I was running. I have a feeling I was kicking someone. If I could remember who I was dreaming about it might help 😄

You were kicking that black dog. 🐶.

Possible, but I’m sure it was a person - maybe it’ll come back to me 😂

PS. Apparently my my neighbour's autistic little boy had a melt down during the night, his father apologised to me this morning in case his son had woken me up. I did not wake up, even if I had I would have fully understood the situation as I had studied a course recently on Futurelearn about Understanding Autism.

You’re a star ! They’ll be really glad to have such an understanding neighbour. I wish we did !

Just come to my mind who I think you were dreaming of who you kicked out the bed, Ethel🙄

Thanks KZ. Taking a bit of extra rest and hoping to be back out there on Monday 😀

Oh no, sorry to hear that. Hope you recover quickly. Maybe pick your sleep running route better - stick to a flat route for running in your sleep, not the hills you're planning on working up to! :-)

😂😂 That’s a great idea ! I’ll try to save Ben Nevis for the autumn 😄

Me too ! I know which muscle it is, but it’s amazing how much of my leg is complaining about it 😄

I can imagine! It’s funny what we get up to in our sleep isn’t it! I woke up with a chunk of skin missing from the end of my nose a few days ago 😂😂

Yeeowww ! Hope you’ve checked your bedroom for sharp edges !

I think I probably did it myself with a fingernail lol. I managed to stab myself in the arm with one today n did the wrist on the other one last week. Maybe I should cut them....🤔😂

Oh dear! Sounds like I’m not the only one with active dreams. I was climbing Everest a few nights ago... It sounds like some dynamic stretching before bed might help us...

ButtercupKid profile image
ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toCouchpotato2

That might be a sound idea. I feel ok when I go to bed, but I have a lot of weird dreams and wake up all tense ! Need to break the pattern.

Couchpotato2 profile image

I suppose it’s getting rid or processing worries etc. Hmm hard to help your unconscious self!

ButtercupKid profile image
ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toCouchpotato2

Something like that going on, I’m sure. Wish I could work out what. Then I could deal with it while I was awake 😄

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2Graduate in reply toButtercupKid

I’ve had some really weird ones too recently and I don’t count climbing Everest, downhill ski racing, running that I do (I think sometimes actively)!

These are some good stretches for before bed 👍 ignore their terrible spelling and dodgy music 🙄

ButtercupKid profile image

Thanks Molly - gives me some ideas. I think the last half dozen or so from NHS Strength and Flex might work. I’ll give them a try x

Maybe you should take Strava to bed with you !

Sounds like you need to do some more stretching. There are some exercises on the Couch to 5k website. That should help. 😀

ButtercupKid profile image
ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toPinkpig20

I’ll look into that. Thanks !

Maybe mummification before bed is the answer, you might dream your a caterpillar but you won’t pull any muscles 🤣🤣

ButtercupKid profile image
ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toTime_to_run

I’m not sure self-mummification is a thing, and there’s no-one else here fit enough to do it. Besides, they’d forget to unbind me in the morning 😂

Quiet life is a good herbal remedy for a good nights sleep. I take 2 or 3 about 9pm if I am having weird dreams and it seems to help. If you take it later you are still sleepy in the morning I find. I pulled an actual ligament in my foot a few years ago..and it didnt even wake me up lol! I only found out when I went to get out of bed in the morning and fell over :) I hope you are feeling better and enjoy your run today Buttercup :)x

ButtercupKid profile image
ButtercupKidGraduate in reply toCRAZYCATME

Ow ! Hope you didn’t injure yourself more in the fall ! I’ve tried Quiet Life but only had even weirder dreams, so I’m a little wary of going there again 😂 I’ve been trying Bach Flower Remedies pastilles: one of those at bedtime helps me get to sleep, but doesn’t change the self-destruction once I’ve gone to sleep. Ah well - onwards and upwards !
