C25k w9 !

Just thought I would write a little bit around my experience now I am in the final week of coach to 5k

So far I have completed the whole 8 weeks on a treadmill with a incline of 2% to try and ready me for the outside.

With the idea I wanted to be able to do the 5k in 30 mins I have always done 6.2mph run and 4.0mph walk.

I started this journey at the end of December and weighed Just over 18 stone!

As it stands I weigh 16.5stone and have only really ate healthy since the beginning of February as January was about quitting smoking and dry January (both of which are still going strong)

Looking back now I use to struggle to run for just 3 minutes which is hard to believe. I have just complete my last 28 minute run where I am up to 2.96miles just shy of 5k!

The toughest weeks by far have been weeks 5/6 although I went and had a gait analysis complete and purchased some proper running shoes to help with my pronating feet which have made a massive difference particularly to my knees!

This Saturday I venture outside for the first time which could be interesting a fairly flat 3.10mile route planned!

I have no doubt I can complete the program now but god it's been tough at times!

All I can say is stick with it as it is so rewarding the closer to the end you get! Have my first official 5k timed run in 2 weeks and I'm determined to get under that 30min bracket!

Good luck all

Well done. I’ve only just started but reading things like this helps. Good luck for Saturday & your 5k run

Good luck with your outdoor adventure. I ran the 1st 6 weeks on a treadmill but am now enjoying the great outdoors.

I am totally in awe of your pace 😀👍🏻

Thanks! How did you find going outside? We're you able to cover the same distance you were doing inside?

It’s different! I find I actually go a bit faster outside and I tend to start a bit too fast and pay for it latter. The speed surprised me as i am running on the crowded streets of central London.

It’s a bit harder on the legs as I am running on pavement (tried mud & gravel track at the weekend which was great). The other thing is the natural undulations which mean you are often running up and down hills (however small) which makes your legs feel different.

I also overdressed for my first outside run and overheated making the run hard and unpleasant- I don’t do that now! Although I do like to wear a pair of really thin running gloves as my hands have been getting cold.

You see a lot of running with water bottles but I thing that just unnecessary for a 30minute run. I just make sure I am hydrated before I start and drink as soon as I am finished.

Hope that helps. I would recommend getting out as it is much more interesting. I always run a different way and have discovered things I’ve never seen

Feel free to ask anything else

That’s inspiring Jamesa87!
