Start W3 tomorrow

visionsofjohanna profile image

Haven’t run for over 30 years but have managed to complete weeks 1 & 2. Actually look forward to it now. Still struggling with my mind wanting me to stop whilst I’m exercising, have pushed through it so far but any tips welcome.

Well done I find listening to music helps. I have a load of songs from all eras so I roughly know the length of the songs so can match up with what the trainer is saying if she says five minutes it’s one long or two short songs. It helps take the mind off the running. Good luck for Week 3 and enjoy.

Thank you, music does indeed help

I find listening to music does help me to keep on going, too. Sometimes a driving beat can be useful and more laid back ones for cooling down, of course. You can choose songs of the right length for your specific runs and it’s fun putting stuff together as well. You could even try Visions of Johanna, which is about 7 and a half minutes! I’d steer clear of Sad-eyed Lady for a while though - goes on for a long time! (This, I realise, dates me a bit ...) 😊 Good luck and harmonious running! 👍🏻

I’m saving Desolation Row and Idiot Wind for week 5 😄

Like it! If it’s a question of motivation, and if it looks like a hard rain’s gonna fall, just put your gear on, step outside, and Don’t think twice, it’s alright ... 😉😉👍🏻

Thank you, though if I look around too much I’ll fall off the treadmill 😄

I was in exactly the same place. I realised fairly early on that if I looked after myself early on and completed all the runs, I'd graduate on my birthday weekend. So I organised a C25k graduation and birthday party. That way I won't chicken out of any runs (but can still hold my head up high if I have to delay because of illness or injury). :)

I was the same visionsofjohanna but about 40years ago in my case. Ive just finished week 5 and the big 20min run and found that the easiest way was to create a playlist of songs I know really well (mainly 80s stuff) then know that each run was so many tracks long. That way, when Sarah Millican told me I had 5 minutes to go, I knew it was just the end of Tainted Love and the whole of Toto’s Africa to listen/sing along in my head to, and I’d have made it!

I think I'm going to be spending the morning creating a playlist! Thanks for the help and congratulations on finishing week 5!
