So I’m on week 2 now, I’ve taken advice onboard and I’m running slow slow slow. And yes I’ve been to the run shop for gait analysis and new shoes. But now I’m having troubles with my ankle/shin and have pain when my toes lift up and my ankle angles. Also, there is not as much bend on my left ankle when compared to the right ankle. Rubbish at explaining my ailments but there you go.

My question is, is this a “no pain, no gain” scenario or obvious pain stop one?

I’m not an expert, but it is common to have niggling aches and pains in the early stages - E.g. I had pain on the inner side of my knees for about the first four weeks and then it just fizzled out. It takes time to build your runner’s legs. Go gently & if in doubt, check with a dr or sports physio. Good luck. 😀

Thanks for that, I’m going to take an extra rest day and see what happens on the next walk/run. You know what doctors are like, takes 3 weeks just to get an appointment.

I still get aching shins when I push the distance a bit more. Aches and niggles are to be expected. Pain is a warning. Never run through pain.

It’s more of a pain that I feel afterwards, I notice it when I walk too
