w6r3 aborted sore right hip gutted

I was supposed to complete w6 this week and my right hip is very sore has been the last few runs. Just tried to ‘run through it’ - anything I’ve looked at says rest! I teach, so I walk a lot during the day and it’s nippy with every step. Have been walking on non run days - managed a walk tonight but not sure whether to do complete rest? When I start back hopefully in 4/5 days do I go back to week 5? I’m actually gutted :( it has put me in bad form - any advice or support welcome - I actually never EVER imagined not getting out for a run would piss me off lol

Ok... good reading... stop is correct. Good thinking too.. a few days rest is only going to help with any pain. If you’re out 4/5 days you’ll actually come back stronger than at the start of your last run... it takes about two weeks to start losing fitness... and for the first couple of days your muscles are in repair and strengthen mode... plus you’ll have fresh legs... so that’s all win.

A complete rest day could work wonders too... as a teacher I guess that’s not happening til the weekend!

I’m a big fan of the runners world “injuryproof” series of articles and am linking the relevant one for you.

Rest is the best option, if you keep trying to run with the pain you could be doing more damage which could result in more than 4/5 days off.

You will really be pissed off then. 😂

Agree with OFloss, dont worry about taking time off to rest. I ended up having to take 3 weeks off due to breaking my arm. It drove me, and probably everyone on here up the wall as I actually wanted to run! Bizarre but true! That feeling of wanting to run when you can't will.stand you in good stead on the days when runs don't go as we hope. I repeated the last run I'd done and found it easy to slot right back into training.

Also I'm wondering what's causing the hip problem, have you had a gait analysis done and been fitted for trainers that suit your running style? I had shin and right hip pain. Turns out I was overpronating when running. I corrective trainers have alleviated the problem and pain.

No I haven’t had a gait analysis - best place to go? I’ve just been wearing a pair of Nike trainers I have

Ah, that could be the root cause. Most independent running shops do them. They'll ask you to run on a treadmill for a couple of minutes in your usual trainers whilst recording your feet. They'll then play back the recording of your feet, looking out for any problems with foot strike and lift. Eg I heel strike and turn my feet inwards (over pronating) when running which was causing my hip and shin pain. They fitted me with trainers with high/strong arch support. Problem largely solved.
