Hello,

I’m new to this app and also fitness. I have been on a few 2.5 mile walks recently to try and build up my endurance. Was the first run on this app a struggle? Or will I manage okay?

Thanks

I have walked our dog for a while and found the first week ok. Legs ached after the first one, but after that I’ve been ok, up to now, with no aches or pains or gasping for breath!

Thanks for the response Flatbread. I’m hoping that it won’t be too difficult to complete. I’m not looking to lose motivation on my first run lol. I suppose it’s true what they say though “No pain, No gain”

I’ve found it a really good plan just pushing enough without it being too hard.

Welcome JG94!!!! I was also new to running when I started and I have no dog to walk, so really lazy and unfit!!! But the program is brilliant and helps you build fitness at a manageable pace.

Just make sure you “embrace your inner snail” as many of us say here . Go VERY VERY SLOW 🐌 and you will do great!! And always have a rest day between your runs.

Take a look at the pinned posts, there is one with all the tips for new runners, it is full of running wisdom.

And you can always post your questions here, you will find it is a friendly group 😃. I would have never got so far if it not were for the advice and encouragement here!!

Happy running, let us know how it goes!!

Thank you for the support Whatnog, I’ll keep everyone posted tomorrow after my run. I’ll try to keep the speed down to a “snail” pace!

I think you’ll be fine if you are already lightly active. I’ve managed WK1 and smiling. I’ve been on the couch for 15 years. You will amaze yourself but do it at a manageable pace for you.

Thanks Ladyvickster, I’ve been for a 3 mile walk today. I’m going to attempt run 1 tomorrow! I’ll keep you updated.

I still struggle but I manage it. I guess if it wasn’t difficult I’d be bored. It’s hard enough to be interesting and manageable enough to keep motivated x

Welcome.

My first run was more than a struggle... but that’s because I ran way too fast! Keep the pace down and you should be just fine. My second run was much smoother.

Of course, what you really want to know is can you do this plan? Can you really run for 30 minutes in a couple of months? YES you can. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You will only find out what you can manage by having a go, but you have nothing to lose........ you can only fail this if you head back to the couch.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi JG94, fellow dog walker here! If u have been walking 2.5 miles then you will manage this as long as you go at a comfortable speed for you!! Good luck👍

Thanks Cfc55, I unfortunately do not have a dog (would love one, but not the right situation at present). I’ll give it a go tomorrow and update you all with how I got on. Thanks for the support!
