Couch to 3k

I did week 7 run 3 today on a treadmill for first time. I am a very slow runner and only made 2.9k. I have never had an idea of distance as I dont use a Fitbit. I think it's unlikely I will make 5k by the end. My end goal has always to do a parkrun. Will I make it ? Anyone else really slow at the end ?

Most C25K graduates don’t run 5k by the end of the plan... makes no difference to the cardio benefits! After graduating you can go get 5k, and indeed parkrun. Parkrun is good wether you can run all of it or not, and the ability to complete it will come. You’re doing great there, don’t worry about distance.

Oh that's encouraging. Thank you for replying. To be fair I should be happy as I never thought I would be able to do what I have. And I can tell that 25mins is getting easier 😊

That’s the “stat” to really be focused on... how much easier it gets, how much further you can go is pressure and we don’t need pressure and stress, we need fun, then we come back for more and everything slowly improves.

My pace has got slower and slower as the plan has gone on. Once I finish the plan I will just have a few consolidation weeks then I will start to work on getting my 5k. Not many people actually hit the 5k at the end if the plan.

If you look at this poll of graduates healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... you will see that only a small percentage of graduates run a sub 30 minute 5k by the end of the programme.

Graduation requirements are to run for 30 minutes three times.

Many people at parkrun walk some or all of the distance, so you will be ahead of many.
