Trying to get back into running following an Achilles injury,

Hi All, Having graduated from C25K last summer (surprising myself in the process, being 64 years old with no previous running experience to speak of), I followed up with a few 5k runs and six parkruns. I was chuffed to bits with this, but in November I damaged my Achilles tendon and had to give up running for a while to allow recovery. Two months later, I have today managed a 4k run (albeit with pauses) in 31 minutes, which is far better than I expected. I was fearful of having to start C25K again from the beginning due to losing fitness, but now it looks as though this won't be necessary.

I am posting this simply to encourage anyone in a similar position to get back into running again. I feel so much better for having made the effort and I hope you will to!

Happy New Year

Ray

Welcome back to the forum.

Having been in a similar position to you in the past I would recommend that you continue your build up in duration and intensity very gently.

Keep running, keep smiling.
