It was Christmas Eve, babe,

In the hushed park.

A rude man said to me,

“Can’t see you learn to run !”

And then he laughed at me

But I thought of you all.

I turned my face away

And dreamed of 5k.

I’m on a healthy run,

Having a lot of fun.

This year’s for me and you.

So Happy Christmas,

My running family;

I can see a better time

When all our dreams come true.

In hi-viz and torches

In old shoes

Or new shoes,

In gold, red or blue shoes,

Barefoot if you’re brave

(Maybe not in the snow !)

We run hell for leather.

It’s by a band called the Pogues - I think it was originally an Irish band and the lead singer is definitely Irish. Check out the original on YouTube.
