I was wondering whether to do a park run on Saturday morning, it will only be run 3 of week 2. I don’t want to show myself up by being the last to do the full 5K. Souls I wait a few weeks. Sorry for all the questions recently.
Park run: I was wondering whether to do a park... - Couch to 5K
Park run
No harm on running a parkrun this Saturday, you don't need to run all of the way, don't worry about being last because you will not be last, enjoy the park run 😁. 🏃😊
If you try and run the 5k, be prepared to be injured as it will be much more likely. Go and do the run you’re due to do and walk the rest and you’ll probably have fun, and you may be last to finish. I have one parkrun done... I was last to finish with the tail walker.... I had a great time. There’s a possibility that everyone at your parkrun will have been doing this more than 2 weeks!
If you think you’ll ever line up at parkrun as one of maybe 500 and think you’re competing with the 499 you’re wrong, you only compete with one runner ever!
Parkrun is a great experience and we recommend that you just stick with the programmed run and walk the rest.
Have a great time.
PS you can register your club as NHS C25K.
Shelley2310 - You won't come last as that is the tail walkers' job and anyway a lot of people just walk it. just do your normal warm up at the start then the Week 3 run and just warm down by walking to the end.
Be warned! you may make friends, Fluorescent Lycra may start to feel normal and the cake and coffee afterwards too good to miss. It's a slippery slope
Hi Shelley, I have been tail walker a few times and the average slowest speed seems to be about an hour at our park run, so I am sure you will not be slower than that! Yes just do your walk/run for week 2 run 1 and then walk the rest. There are usually other walkers and if not, the tail walker will keep you company! Park run is great fun, enjoy! 😁🏃👍
At my local Parkrun there were a whole load of people in coloured tabards from a local running club C25K group progressing through the course together. 2 weeks ago they all turned out in new tops with C25K Finisher emblazoned across the back for their graduation run. They had a great reception.
But equally, one of the regulars is an older chap who walks the whole way (pretty briskly, but no running). You will find no-one mocks anyone, all you get is encouragement. I never thought I would ever run anywhere, but I love it.
The only thing I would mention is that you don't get much opportunity for your 5-minute warm-up walk, unless you include that in the 5K. I usually just walk briskly round the park near the start for a few minutes beforehand, but standing round waiting for the actual start can lose some of that benefit.
We do advise waiting a little while into the programme... before PR.. you can get carried away! But..if you really want to.. then take the advice from IannodaTruffe
