Hey guys!

I've just completed week 1 and am looking to move on to week 2.

The thing is I've been doing so on a treadmill and my concern is when I get fitter and start running outside how much more difficult running on road would be.

Do any of you know how to make treadmill running the same as road running ? TIA

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes the suggestion that you put your treadmill on a gradient of at least one degree.

Treadmill and outdoors are just different.........said the man who has only run on a mill for gait analysis.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi jeccamay, I’m the opposite and have run 99.9% of the time outside during C25K and beyond, but have joined a gym for the winter!

Apparently it helps to set the incline to 1.5 (I’m sure that’s what I was told on my induction) to replicate wind resistance.

I must say I found the treadmill harder because of the warmth of the gym. You’ll clearly have the opposite issue!

Sorry, not especially helpful, but I hope all goes well for you, and good luck on the programme! 😀

The two are so so different....that to replicate outdoor conditions would be impossible.

Inside all conditions can be controlled.. outside... none... :)

Weather, surface, etc.. are never the same even on the same routes.. which is what makes it fabulous!!!

Maybe, try to pop in an outdoor run soon. just a gentle route, to see where you are?

Hi there, well I ran outside for several months but now I’m on a treadmill for winter. I think the main thing is to do it wherever’s best for you, and to not worry too much at this stage. I think the treadmill is slightly easier, but still hugely valuable, and way less risk of twisting an ankle etc on slippery and or uneven ground, or roots etc, in the half light. Yes by alL means set a small incline, but again don’t over think it if possible, there’s a huge pay back from this and the programme is brilliant, but keep it as simple as suits you and you alone. But do do it! You ll love it, promise!

I think I may just complete the programme in the gym then gradually move to running outside when I don't look like a hot mess :o

Thanks guys!!
