For a couple days I was considering backing out of this it went not best but decent... I got half of the runs done till I had a problem and walked into someone I knew so I panicked and went straight home I was on high alert looking for ppl looking or watching. It didn’t go the best
Week 1 run 1: For a couple days I was... - Couch to 5K
Week 1 run 1
But well done for starting it. I don't run near home. I drive 20mins to do a trail run & have never seen anyone I know. See lots of other runners & dog walkers & they all say hi. Hope you go give it another go
Great job getting out there... people see runners, but they really don’t notice us... we are just an insignificant moment in their day. Don’t worry about what anybody thinks, this is going to change your life for the better, anyone with a problem in you doing that is crazy.
Absolutely agree with other comments. I was worried about people watching me being overtaken by snails. But the truth is no one pays any attention to you unless it’s a friendly hello. Just get back out there and don’t worry about other people
Definitely- just do it for yourself 😊😊
Hiya,
Just want to confirm what the others have said really....
Well done for getting out there.
People don't notice you, and if they do, I bet they are saying "I wish I could run"....
Don't waste energy thinking about, what you think others are thinking....
Do this for YOU 👍
Well done. 1/2 a run is so much better than no run at all, lots of us can feel conscious as we start running but hang in there, it does go away and running is actually very good at building up your confidence.
Well done for starting, that's the hardest part, keep it up. We've all felt embarrassed at some point in the first few weeks, mine was when a group of cyclists stopped and shouted encouragement as I crawled past. It gets easier
First and foremost, well done for getting started, that’s the main thing. I’m quite self-conscious about being seen doing this (I’m on W6, doing R2 tomorrow) and I’ve kept my runs to treadmill sessions in the gym, is that an option for you? If so I find it’s good and anonymous, you just stick on your headphones and off you go, you’ve got license to ignore people around you! 😃
I think we all go through that spell (especially early on) where we are very conscious that we look like a hyperventilating lobster crawling around the streets. Inevitably that day comes when you run (stagger, limp etc) into someone you know. So what - you're doing something to make your enjoyment of life better and if (and its a massive if) they say or think anything negative, there is a huge probability that inside the real "them" is thinking that they wish they could get themselves motivated to improve their life as well. Peak embarrassment for me was the session we hit 4 different people during a 30 minute run - to be fair it was Saturday afternoon in the big local park so not entirely a carefully picked quiet time. Now I tend to run either in the gym (at lunchtimes because its dark by the time I finish work) or early on a Saturday morning when only the dog walkers or other runners are out - still keep bumping into the neighbours walking their dogs though. Keep going - its great when you "get it" and start looking out the car windows thinking "That would make a great run" (Or maybe that's just me!)
