Well that was a bit of a struggle..... heart rate was way higher than W3r1 ...... don’t know why that should be? Conscious at 55 and being overweight I might be pushing too hard? Any thoughts most welcome 😀

Was your heart rate at normal resting level today? Did you choose a new route? Did you go slightly faster without trying? Did you run on a softer surface? Could be a lot of things.

The good news is you’re still with us! Maximum heart rates are a guesstimate unless you’ve been through medical tests. If you’re worried about it, go and see a GP.

No I am doing all my C25k on treadmill as running outside seems to really do my knees in . I wear a support on one of them when I start feeling twinges...I was within my max heart rate so will see what it’s like on W3R3....I walk at 6.2kph and run at 9.2kph so I don’t think I’m running too fast .....and I try not to bounce !

You didn’t leave it on someone else’s incline by accident? That makes a big difference.

9.2k is certainly faster than you need to do for this... so if it’s just the heart responding to the increased workload, slow down and let the fitness develop.

I’m not sure if this helps, but my heart went really high at times especially at the start and in the earlier runs. I was like an old windbag. Some days it still goes up high, running and other runs it doesn’t. So I’ve got used to my heart going up sometimes, but you’re still right to be mindful of it.

If you’re running on a treadmill, take your hands off the heart monitor rail and use your arms to run. Free your arms to help you move more. It makes life a lot easier running/jogging. If you want to monitor your heart get a Fitbit type wrist watch- there’s plenty cheap second hand on the Internet. Hope this helps. Just talking from experience and yes, I sound bossy!

Ha no you don’t sound bossy at all ...hands are always off the heart monitor rails .... rest ‘ish day tomorrow and W3R3 on Saturday so will see what HR is like.... still struggling to give up the wine at night but tonight it’s iced sparkling SAN Pel so hopefully this will also help 😀
