I’m due to run today, (W7R1) but I’m loaded with a cold and feel a bit rubbish. Would I be best to wait till I’m feeling a bit better or should I just suck it up and get out? Thanks I’m advance.

Hi GBNDT. So sorry you are feeling poorly. at the end of the day it is your call. However the rule of thumb IF you want to run is that if the cold is in your head only you are fine to run, if it hits your chest, report to the injury couch until you feel better.

Hope you feel better soon.

If it’s gonna suck, rest and recover... the run will wait.

Cut'n'paste: A few days rest doesn't do any harm, for me it's usual beneficial. Better than trying and failing because you're not up to it.

Thanks I think I’ll give it a miss today. It won’t be a good run I feel pretty rubbish anyway. Hope to be a bit better tomorrow to give it a go. Cheers for the advice much appreciated.

I would wait till you feel back to full health even if you miss a few days, the road/trail/dreadmill will still be there! Perhaps just get out for a walk if you feel like it tomorrow. Just my opinion.

Some people like to torture themselves but I prefer to enjoy my running.

That is much more likely to happen if I'm actually feeling well............. Give yourself a break, literally, and come back refreshed when you are fully well.

As others have said, do not run with a chest cold. If it’s a head cold then you can run, in the sense that it’s not unsafe, but why would you make yourself more miserable? If it only lasts a few days the rest will do you no harm.
