The dreaded “stitch”

So today I had W5R2 warm up 5 run for 8 mins walk for 5 mins run for 8 mins walk for 5.......... dreading it! Got through my 1st 8 mins relatively unscathed.

Started 2nd Run, got to 4 mins and then the stitch arrived, so debilitating and hurts alot!

Any tips please gang, I couldn’t complete the run and was thoroughly pissed off, the only run that’s beat me so far and it’s knocked my confidence abit 😕

Don’t be down on yourself, you got out there and went for it... you didn’t do that a few weeks ago.

The diaphragm, like all other muscles needs to condition, and stitches strike at the edge of your fitness most of the time... they’ll get less. Slow down and they should be less.

Now, chin up and be ready to go again... nobody won anything without tasting defeat... be proud of it, and get ready to beat that run next time. Well done getting out there.

Oh... and you ran 8 minutes straight with enough left to run some more... could you do that a few weeks ago? What’s the difference now? Your hard work... you can do the impossible... keep going.

Thankyou so much for ur lovely positive words, I think, when u put it all like that I have come a long way but it’s the 1st run that I’ve not been able to complete so felt a little frustrated but your words have resonated with me and made me realise Rome wasn’t built in a day! x

Chick today you sit week 1 all in 1 go with no breaks, and then another 4 mins!! Look how far you have come! It’s an insane achievement. Well done!! Give it another go and you will crack it. X

I only get a stitch if I don't leave long enough after eating before running, though that might be just me. Hydration can help too ( hydration helps a surprisingly large number of issues - or maybe that should say even slight dehydration can cause all sorts of niggles).
