Hi, exciting times here at Austerity Towers - it’s blowing up a hooley and because it’s half term we can go where- and whenever we choose (Topsy the dog is part of the “we” - she’s an essential part of my running kit!) and i cannot believe we’ve actually stuck to the programme as a sticker-to-programmes I generally am not.

So I’m a bit worried about the future. Not just for the environment, or the NHS, or Scottish rugby, but this running lark. It’s been brilliant but what can I do to stay morivated and keep a routine? I want to continue getting out on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, I would like to continue to improve, maybe build up time to an hour at the weekend...

What do you do?

Kx

Ps this is where we run mostly. How lucky are we?!

Hi Sykesy64, what a stunning place for running!!! I am also embarking on my final week, and over the last couple of weeks I have been checking out posts from people just ahead of me and absorbing what they are up to and how they move on. From what I gather, it’s a good idea to do consolidation runs for a couple of weeks, which means running 3x30 min runs per week. Many have a go at the popular nationwide Saturday morning 5k park runs, some sign up to 5k races in the near or distant future to have a goal ahead, and some move onto the 5k-10k program and sign up to a 10k race, while others just keep running their own way. Once you graduate, you will be sent a link with lots of useful post-C5K information. Personally, I need a plan so I will do the consolidation runs and I start making a plan. Hope you can find something that takes your fancy and that works for you.

Thank you for a splendid response, Dragon! I think I’ll follow your advice and repeat W9 with Michael Johnson for a couple of weeks. Thanks again x

Maybe get a training app... mine will do all you want and keep a schedule!

Nice running country... similar to here, but I don’t have the blue stuff behind the hills... unless someone’s stolen Sheffield

That wasn’t taken today! We’re not far up the road from Sheffield x

Oh... can you check it’s still there for me then? I’m worried that it’s gone, nothing on the news so far 😂

But why would anyone care?!? Seriously - what app do you use?

Just a crazy idea I know but, once you've graduated, why don't you go out for a run every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday....

Tee hee! It’s the structure of this that’s been my motivation and I could very easily lapse :-) But I think I’ll just repeat W9 a few times until I’m confidentit’s a habit!

That's what I did for a couple of weeks. Then I started increasing distance. Now I either do my usual straight out the door or go off looking for nice trail runs to do. That usually ends with getting lost which also increases the distance a fair bit.

I think we dig deep. We alL have inner resources to call upon when needs be. If you want to do it you will, but nothing can make you if you don’t want. As adults, were self-motivating 😃

I don’t wanna go to my plot today to fix my shed roof which has all the felt ripped off but I know I have to 😫. I’d rather go for a run 😁. Austerity Towers here too hence the diy Actually getting on the roof is putting me off 😁🙈

I started going to Park Run (am now an addict!), made a goal of 10k and joined a running group - all very motivating. Bridge to 10k on here is fab too. Happy running, whatever you decide is for you 😊
