Is running on grass easier on your knees? I start week 6 today and up to now have only run on grass. Any advice most welcome.

I mostly run trails as I find the ground softer, a small part of it is grass , makes my trainers soggy though !

Paths once a week.

Yes the trainers do get a bit soggy but I really enjoy green spaces so can put up with that. Thanks for the reply ! X

I find running on grass easier on my knees as the ground is softer than tarmac paths. However if you run early, then even on a dry day you're likely to get damp feet from the dew, especially if the grass isn't particularly short. But you can get used to that soggy feeling. Be careful on long wet grass as it can be quite slippery.

Thank you for that. I agree with all your comments.

Mostly yes, until it freezes and then the trails are softer. I started in grass with my dodgy knees and still do most of my running there, but I have ventured onto trail and even tarmac paths with no issues... not done paving yet!

its meant to be better for your ankles too, apparently. The slight unevenness of the ground beneath the grass is supposed to help strengthen the ankle muscles so you're less likely to turn or sprain an ankle - though obviously beware of holes and big tussocks. (and someone who knows better may come along and tell us why this is untrue - haha)

Thanks for the info. That’s encouraging as I’m about to step out the door to my usual stomping ground.
