Hi. Any tips for a newby...Starting training tomorrow and cannot run at all!!!
Starting tomorrow: Hi. Any tips for a newby... - Couch to 5K
Starting tomorrow
Neither could I until I started this and now I have 1 run left.
My best advice is run regularly and even if you think you can’t do it you really can. Go into each run with a positive attitude and it will happen, it might be tough but just keep going even at a snails pace. Good luck 😉
Welcome to the forum.
All my tips are in this guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Enjoy your journey.
Slow & steady wins C25K. Lots of support & advice on this forum. Have fun on your journey 👍🏻
Yes slow and steady is definitely the best way forward! Also don’t beat yourself up if you don’t stick to the 3 runs a week. I started in August and I’m only on week 4 run 2 because I started a challenge at the gym and can’t fit the runs in as well
It gets easier keep that in mind, I always take a bottle of water and music, I always run on the seafront as love being down there- I’m due to do W3R3 today I should probably be starting W5 by now but I’ve repeated W1 and W2 runs more than 3 x for extra confidence as I’ve not done any exercise for what must be 10 years
Welcome. Read everything in IannodaTruffe’s link. The more you know the easier it is to become a runner, and it’s pretty much all in there.
Slow and steady running and self belief will get you through. If my mentioning self belief made you think you can’t, you’re wrong... yes, you can.
Kick any excuses you got out of your head and enjoy your journey.
Hi and welcome,
Started C25K August bank holiday in a pair of trainers bought in a sale (New Balance - but really cheap) and clothing similarly priced. I have never enjoyed running. I played rugby union and pre season was always my nightmare, it involved road running! My logic was therefore try C25K and if I hate it pack in little money lost.
I am still running and love it. Ok that may be a stretch but I am on wk7 and have got there by following my daughters advice - stick to the plan. The app is there to get you to the point where you run 5k so try to stick to it. My daily commute is at least an hour and a half drive so on a bad night I really don’t want to go out for a run (I use Chris Evans phrase a shuffle) but when I get back home after forcing myself out I feel fantastic. My wife loves my Sunday run as I come back in and am so full of energy the house gets vaccuumed top to bottom!
Advice is :
1) stick to the plan even if you don’t want to.
2) If you stick to it get your gait analysed and change your running shoes if you have to - amazing benefits.
3) listen to music
4) try to enjoy it - it’s fun
Hope this helps!
Well done you for getting here ⭐️ Most people find 1:1 a shock to the system but don’t let it worry you. Give it your best shot and then you’ll know your baseline. If your legs ache more than seems reasonable then try running on softer surfaces. Remember the programme has a repeat facility for a reason: if you do struggle at any time, it’s sound strategy to repeat in order to build up stamina and pace. Lastly, have fun ! People here are really friendly and helpful, and you can do this. Enjoy the journey 🤸🏽♂️😄
Wow......Thank you all so much for the encouragement and words of wisdom. Mixed feelings about starting....I really really want to make it to 5k and not give up!! And get over the self consciousness of being so slow out there!! Day by day
