Newbie saying hi!

I started the C25K last year but gave up at week 6/7 due to family illness. Got new trainers a few weeks ago (Asics) and that spurred me on again! Have run two 5ks now, one in 41mins 37s, second in 41mins 26s - small progress but in the right direction at least. Aiming to reduce time/increase speed slowly - 38 mins is my target as am age 58! Onwards and upwards, and always having fun. Jo

Well done.

Have you actually completed the programme? It is unclear from your post.

No, I got into week 8 and then my little great niece was diagnosed with kidney cancer (she's only 2 ) so everything stopped. She had months of chemo and surgery but now is in remission so I decided to follow her example and get back into life again. Rather than start C25K again, I tried just going for a run to see how I felt. I managed 5K quite well but needed a few walking breaks. So I am targetting 5K and just doing what is comfy for me, walking as needed, and the time is going down (last run was 41 mins 10s). Its working for me!!

To all intents and purposes you are a new runner and as such would be wise to follow training plans appropriate to your level. At 58 your body will take longer to strengthen than for someone half your age, so be cautious about doing too much too soon. Just because you can do something, does not mean that you are wise to be doing it, without careful build up.

Take care and enjoy your running.

Good job... and a realistic target in the mid term for sure. Happy running

I wouldn't let your age limit your ambitions running wise ... I managed a sub 30 5K at 58 ish .. but building up gradually and not over doing it is the way to go and importantly enjoying it 😊

I agree - enjoying it is everything. If there's one thing I learned over the last 11 months it is that life is not to be endured, it is to be celebrated and ENJOYED - none of us know what is ahead. My aim is 38 mins for now, once there I'll set another lower target! :)

Ran today after watching a video suggested by IannodaTruffe (using the shuffle run technique). 5.01k in 39m 57s! Really pleased! Thanks for the advice.

Last run was 5.02k in 39m 49s - at least going in the right direction lol.
