I struggle to find the trigger that will make me get up earlier than usual, put my running shoes on, and start the ct5k. I'm not sure if it's mental, physical or what but I was going to ask for some kind of advice on what makes you all do it and what you Would say to egg on someone who genuinely struggles to get this started. I did w1r1 about 6 months ago or more and then I stopped, it's almost as though just managing the 1 run made me that elated that id somehow accomplished something and didn't need to do anymore. I'm 33, 5'9" and 18.5stone. So I know I need to lose some although I don't look too bad, more stocky or festively frumpy. Appreciate any ringside advice from you pros and more mentally strong folk =)

I'm restarting from scratch after a back injury. Today I'm going out to do w2r1.
I'm enjoying being outside. If you search on Facebook for example you may find a c25k group. I found one, makes you more motivated to do it I find. But I also enjoy going out on my own. The fact that you're willing to give it a go is very positive. If you don't feel like doing the running bit just now, have a couple of weeks of just walking for the 30mins.
Hi, I’m new to this too, I started Monday, I couldn’t manage to complete W1D1..!!! I’m 48, 5:6” and 13 stone, about a 14/16 size.
I decided I’m gonna get up Wednesday morning and do it rather than the evening, few reasons, it’s cooler, less people around and it’s dark lol, guess what, I did it.
If you can’t get yourself up in the morning, try the evening instead, some people just arent early birds 😃😃 x

The programme is slow and it is structured and will take you gently along.
You say you know you need to lose weight and that is part of the motivation ..moving you towards a healthier and fitter you. We all have our own reasons why we do this.
So.. as for getting up and out there.. well, I would tell you it is blooming incredible. all seasons, all weathers, new routes, old routes, long and short... How do we encourage you to get out there... well, we can't really.
You have to want to do it.. and then, after checking out the newbie post.. you pick up the shoes... you put them out and you get out of the door.
Then you post your runs and if you don't.. we come looking for you
Well that's it then isn't it! Between feeling like I'm going to let Monica down and you coming for me at a time I cannot outrun you I'm going to do it tomorrow morning....
Gloves off...........you are overweight and therefore at hugely increased risk of a vast range of physical conditions and illnesses which could strike any time, limiting your ability to live life to the full..........you also have a statistically reduced life expectancy......all this risk increases as you get older.
I started running at 57 to try to prevent what seemed like an inevitable decline in my stamina. By the time I was 61 I was fitter than most 33 year olds, which all stood me in good stead when I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. One year on I have completed my radiotherapy but hormone therapy continues for more than another year. My GP, oncologists and specialist nurses all tell me the fact that I was fit, not overweight and not being treated for any other conditions has been the major factor in the fact that I have had few side effects from both disease and treatment and that my prognosis is probable eradication of the cancer.
Every time I run I am thankful that I started with C25K five years ago and I do not take it for granted that I can do this, unlike my peers who have had strokes, heart disease, diabetes etc. etc.
I am not only fitter but I can sincerely repeat the seemingly corny "and happier,too".....................all because I exercise.............and I love it.
I set a diary reminder for the running days, make it an appointment in a calendar and it’s a lot harder to justify cancelling it.
Is there anyone you can link up with - eg. dog walking / jogging- again having an official date to meet someone is harder to break than wimping out of a solo effort
Get on Strava and / or MyFitnessPal- most of these apps have reminder functions that ask you to log in and report activity or weight

I don’t have that trigger either. I run early in the evenings instead and I love it. The fact you did run one is great... that feeling of elation is what got me through the early runs... I wanted it again. It’s the hardest run and you beat it, that does mean that you can do this. The thing with running is there’s no finish line, only another start line. Yes, you accomplished something, but you’ve now come back, so you didn’t accomplish enough for yourself huh?
Do you have a running goal? Do you want to run the London marathon? Local parkrun? Is it purely for fitness and toning? A goal can help as you can visualise that and it can be your motivation.
