That feeling when...

...you really want to run to clear your head and wake you up but know you shouldn’t because you did parkrun yesterday. Extra frustrating as I’m going to struggle to find running time for the next 7-10 days. Still, I know I’m still a beginner and I don’t want an injury so no run today. Need to find a plan that will work for the winter too when it’ll be dark by 3pm ...

A year or so and you will be able to run on consecutive days:)

Very early mornings in winter.. magic... and with a head torch ..exciting!!!

Good man... sensible... resist the urges... I really want to run too, but it’s not worth the risk.

Winter... weekend run, lunchtimes if possible, headlight and on trails, high viz and pavement pounding, or of course the treadmill. There is a solution, but it depends what you need to be comfortable.

Aye but that’s the point, plenty of daylight at the weekend but I should only run one of those days and by the time it’s safe for me to run Saturday and Sunday it’ll be light in the evening again anyway :)

Can you run at lunch in the week? Or join a gym/buy a treadmill? Both of these are not me... so it’s high vis and headlights fir me... I may look stupid, but I look better than last year regardless!

Yes I’m not convinced I’d enjoy a head torch. The traffic free coastal paths I like aren’t lit so I guess it’ll be running on town pavements in high vis and stopping to cross roads every two minutes.

Coastal path and head torch..perfect.. I can't wait!

Each to their own I guess :) Maybe I'd like it but I just can't picture it. Safety issue too I suppose as that area is pretty isolated at night.

I think that is why I enjoy the coastal path when I am there and my fields and tracks when at home..I just make sure I have my alarm.. my phone and my tracker, ( so husband knows where to find me) .... I feel safer there than on the roads:)

I think because I Graduated in the Winter of 2015... running early mornings..I got used to it:)

I know how you feel. I always observe rest days, but really want to run! Still, like you, I’ve only been running a short time, and to be sidelined would be awful so I resist. Well done you doing the same!

Sounds like you’re loving your running, which is fabulous, so here’s to many more happy runs in your future! 😀😀

I felt the same today too!! But like u I'm following the advice on here and the app and sticking to at least one day between runs.

Also feeling a bit worried about dark nights and mornings... And don't want to stop. So I have just bought a hi Vis , and some reflector snap on band things plus one that flashes!, Florescent cap and a headtorch! Lol. So no excuses!!

Free passes at my local gym this week, so going to try out the treadmill, hopefully. Although I'd rather be outside.

We will just have to adapt I guess.

Good luck

Head torches are great and there’s also the option of chest torches. Don’t write them off without investigating. For trails you just need one with good power output.

I use both head and chest torches and both have their advantages but the main thing I would say, and frequently do on here 😄, is that when using a head torch the ones with a strap that also goes over the head is preferable to one just going around the head (imho). I find that with the latter I have to have it tight to stop the torch slipping down and that can give me a headache, or I can wear it over a peaked cap but it’s not often I want to do that. A strap over the top keeps the torch in place with no bother.

There's actually a 5k in Falkirk in November on a Friday evening where they issue a headtorch as part of your registration pack and you get to keep it ... like other races do with T shirts I suppose ... hmm. Still not sure though.

I don’t like the prospect, but I don’t know until I try... I can see myself walking a fair distance from home with it in my pocket though... my neighbour would have far too much fun if he saw me wearing a headlight 😂

Yes that crossed my mind - but then I had to get over that to do C25k in the first place I suppose. Hmm.
