C25K - Wk 1 - Run 2

Hey there everyone, am desperately unfit and just completed my 2nd run of Wk1 and it REALLY hurts! Dreading tomorrow morning. Did anyone else experience the 2nd time being significantly harder than the 1st? Words of encouragement would be good right now. Thanks in advance!

Welcome.... check this out... :)

Then... slow down :) Then.. slow down more.... relax... land lightly... I call it kissing the ground with your feet:)

Breathe gently.. take everything in as you move on and KNOW you can do this...and know also.. we are all there running with you!

PS

I am the one whispering... slow and steady!

Hey well done on getting out. My week 2 run 2 hurt alot. Keep at it and when take another days rest, it does help. I'm so unfit too but I'm loving it. Someone told me the soreness is the weight trying to escape. If it doesn't just then it's not working lol. Keep it up. If I can do it anyone can do it.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I suspect that you are going much too fast. The recommendation is that you can hold a clear ungasping conversation as you run. This may seem ridiculously slow, but is perfectly adequate to trigger development of your running body.

Relax and enjoy it.

Great job. Slowly slowly is the answer to getting through this as fitness grows. You caught a sucky run today, everyone has them however long they’ve been running, and you didn’t quit, you won... that shows mental strength, and that’s the biggest skill to have.

slow to a pace that is comfortable to you, ensure you have taken some fluids onboard, and ignore the mental voice saying you dread the next run. Please believe me when I say that it can be done, I have completed all week 9, I have lost weight, I have completed 4 park runs - all down to this app. So good luck

Keep going TJ, I’ve only just done W1R3, and I found run number 2 really hard work, I wondered whether this whole challenge was for me. I just set my run reminders now and think ‘right, let’s have another go’, and get my trainers on! I also vary it by doing two of the runs on treadmill in the gym, and one run outdoors on a park trail run with some hills - the hills are a nightmare and I feel like I’m running and standing still at the same time 😫😫 if that makes sense - keep it going TJ👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I echo what everyone else has said. I’ve made it to week 4 and my 3rd run is tomorrow. I NEVER thought I’d manage week 1 but went (and still do) at a snail’s pace, and it’s the best advice ever. Well done for getting off the couch. Xx
