C25K Week 1,Run 2

Hi all, I began the C25K journey very recently and did my 2nd run today. I found my first run very fun and didn’t struggle atall. I felt very positive when I finished. However today I really really struggled with my second run, I am aware it was exactly the same but found it very tiring and struggled to keep going. I managed to push myself through it but just wondered if any one else felt this and managed to improve from here? Feeling very deflated after this run and don’t want it to put me off. Any advice/tips or experiences with this would be greatly appreciated:)

Welcome and well done.

Have you checked out the linked post.. all the info about running the C25K.. and very useful!

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

The FAQ pinned post has lots of other great advice too... Thing is..keep it steady and keep it slow... this is a new venture and your body probably wonders..." what the heck is going on":)

Just take it very gently and do not push at all..there is no need. Many, many folk felt and will feel as you do... just relax and know, as Confucius said,

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop".

My mantra..is slow and steady always has been, always will be.. two years on from Graduation.. still here and still pootling along :)

You are going to be just fine...it will all evolve..trust me:)

Thankyou that’s great to hear. I have been taking it very slow all the time, but maybe it was just a bad day.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I’ll check out the link!

Every day is a different day. When you start, a 'good' run makes you feel on top of the world, full of confidence, vim and vigour. Then a tough run comes along and as you say, it pulls the rug from under you, you feel defeated and deflated. As you grow in experience you will start to realise that today's difficult run, does not mean that the next one will be hard and conversely, a great run today does not mean that the next one will be easy.

There are sometimes reasons ( lack of hydration, being tired/coming down with something, setting off to quick etc). But often not. I think it's what makes running addictive- always chasing the great run!

Thankyou! I have actually come down with quite a nasty cold so maybe my body just wasn’t feeling it. Thanks a lot for your advice! I’m glad this doesnt mean every run will leave me feeling deflated as it wasn’t a nice feeling when I got home !! 😩

Well done you for getting started. You might find every run is different for all sorts of reasons ... the weather, a late night, your last meal, your mood etc etc.

Having had a good first run maybe you're expectations were raised or maybe you were running just bit too fast.

Follow the 'rules' to the letter ... keep it slow, slow, slow, always take at least one rest day, listen to your body and you'll get there.

You can do this ... Happy Running!

Thankyou very much! Yes I think as my first run was so good I expected every run to be like that but I totally understand that it just depends:) I’ll keep going and push through it, hopefully R3 is good too x

I’m on my 2nd run too , and I felt exactly the same as you. But today I couldn’t do the running as my shin was in agony - feel like I’ve failed already ! I have just walked the whole of it. I’m gonna try again in 2 days. Has anyone got any tips ??

See above. Don’t be downhearted. Run nice and slow and with an open mind. An extra rest day seems like a good idea. This programme has worked for many and it can work for you 👍🏃🏾‍♀️

It’s not the best feeling is it!! I loved run 1 but today my legs were absolutely killing!! Could barely make 30 seconds of the run. I feel a lot better now after a hot shower and food but I totally felt like I failed when I was out there!!

Hi Ellmcloughlin ...welcome to the best forum ever! Try not to feel deflated after your run today, every run is different, some good, some bad, some easy, some hard...crikey, you are definitely not alone...parts of the programme felt like a real slog & something I just didn’t think I could complete....but I did, not without tears...of despair, frustration but also of happiness, elation, amazement & wonder...if I can do it, you can too...you have an amazing journey ahead of you , for which I’m slightly envious! The feeling of completing a run is incomparable...if you have to repeat any runs at all because you haven’t quite managed it, bag the stamina & distance & try again...all the help, advice, encouragement, kicks up the butt etc are all on here...we are all running along with each other...enjoy it, all the hard work will be worth it in the end
