Discovered the benefit of the treadmill today

So I completed wk4 run1 and managed to run for 3 and 4 minutes. I have to say that if it wasn’t for the treadmill I don’t think I would have lasted as I think the temptation to slow down and then stop all together and walk would have been too great. I had to do the last two runs without an incline and at one short point dropped the pace to 5.5mph but the fact that I had set the treadmill at a certain pace forced me to push through it and keep moving. Definitely going to have to redo this run I think, as the next run includes two 5 minute runs and I genuinely barely made it through the 4 minute runs today. Anyway, just felt the urge to share as I’m quite pleased that I made it, enjoy your day and your runs everyone 👍

Well done for pushing on through. Personally, I love the treadmill, I helps me set a rhythm that passes through to running outside, I always use the I cline feature too, just means you have to put a bit more effort in ... makes running on the flat easier ...

Keep going you are almost half way .... 😊

Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂

Cripes. Dropped the pace to 5.5mph in Week 4? How fast were you going initially? That's about 30 minutes for 5K. You are well on track!

Well I set the treadmill to 6mph for the runs and 3.5 for the walks with that in mind, as according to google that’s just below what the avarage pace is. Also I’m trying to lose weight (not going great so far) and so sort of been using the switch between walking and running as a sort of High Intensity Interval Training since the runs really do love up to feeling like high intensity. Finally one of my goals is that if I manage to lose enough weight so as to not feel as embarrassed as I would currently, I’d like to do my runs outside. I’m anticipating that outside runs will be tougher than the treadmill and that I will probably end up being considerably slower, so I’m thinking that 6mph on a treadmill (even with incline) will probably come to 4mph outside, so if I were to set it any lower I’m anticipating a greater struggle down the road.

5.5mph sounds super speedy to me! Maybe go slower and you’ll manage the 5 mins better. I’m working on the basis that time jogging is more important than speed.

Slow down if you're finding it hard to complete the runs. It works! Pace is not important! Slow and steady. Be a happy snail! 🐌🐌🐌
