Since astonishing myself by completing C25K last April, I've been running 3 times a week, usually for 30 minutes (about 4.25k). Today for only about the third time I ran 5k, which took me exactly 35 minutes. I realise that for all of you who are younger/better/more serious runners than me that won't be very impressive, but at 67 and never having run since the annual humiliation of school sports days it made me happy I still can't work out why running seems less challenging some days and a real slog on others, but today was a good day.
Happy running everybody - I love reading all your posts.

Hi "grannymilly" C25K means Couch to (not the number 2) 5 K as in 5 kilometers, a little over 3 miles. When I saw it at first I thought it was 25 km you had to run but no, just 5 but not necessarily, just running for 30 minutes is good enough to complete the training program in 9 weeks.
Have you started with this C25K program? I graduated back in June, I recommend it to everyone as it is if nothing else, really good for exercising, others do it as a start to a new life of running which would accumulate in running a full 26 mile/42 kilometre marathon.
Well done and thanks for sharing. It’s really encouraging knowing that someone in their sixties can maintain running (irrespective of age). 🙂
I do believe in this phrase - if you can do it, so can I. I have 7 more runs to do to complete the programme. Can’t believe how far I’ve come and each run I’ve notice is very different.
Nevertheless, it does reinforce how successful C25K is (from couch to 5k) and your being a graduate and still running three times as week shows your commitment to a health way of life. 👍🏻
That’s fabulous and a wonderful time. I’m like you, I graduated last August and have run 5K (with a little bit of walking) only a handful of times. I’m hoping to run 5K non stop at my first park run this weekend. You’ve inspired me as I have sometimes felt that I haven’t pushed myself enough. Well done again...and thank you for making me realise we are all on our individual journeys 👍
Well done on keeping up with the running. I’m 38 and 5k in 35 mins is amazing!! I’ve never understood why running is easier some days and harder others, maybe it’s just the body feeling more tired some days. I’m finishing w6r3 today once I’ve dropped my boy at school. I’m battling the rain today so it should be interesting.
Well done. I graduated in July , am approaching 65 in a few weeks and I’m trying to do the same and run 3 times a week. I had a week off while on holiday but missed it so much. I’m back on it now and I managed 4K in 31 minutes today. Thanks for your inspiration and good luck keeping it going .
I’m 41 years old. Not done any real and continued / regular exercise since university. I’m about to start week 5 and if at the end of C25K, I can run 5k in anywhere near 35 minutes I’ll be absolutely ecstatic.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I think what you’re doing is fab!!!
Thank you. In some ways I'm lucky as I don't have to fit running in around work and children, so in that way it's easier. On the other hand there are the dogs waiting for a walk.... Good luck with rest of C25K 🙂
Same here, although I am a mere 66! I graduated a couple of weeks ago and a 35 minute 5k looks really impressive to me! Some days the legs feel really heavy and on others it is fine. I swim every week, which helps to loosen things up, and walk the dog for 5k most days, but I think that whatever I do, good days and harder days are just part of the deal and I am conditioning myself to accept it, do what I can on the day, and see that as success in the context of not running since my youth, rather than a failure to achieve a target. I still have a plan to improve, but it is just going to take time.
Yes, I'm much the same, including the dog walking! I cycle on non-running days, which I think has helped with the running, but come the winter I might well change to swimming as I hate cycling on wet and windy days. You're right, we just have to get through the hard days and enjoy the good ones. Good luck!
