Don't stretch before running, always warm up first then stretches after excercise..

Afterwards. If you stretch cold muscles you can damage them. (Cold muscles don't like being stretched.) Your warm-up walk should be enough to get your muscles warm (lol) and your heart rate up. But do make sure to have a good stretch afterwards.

I do 5 min warm up walk before running, 5 min cool down walk after and then a series of static stretches. I think current wisdom is that static stretching before you run is best avoided but dynamic stretches can we okay. I sometimes make a half hearted attempt at these during my warm up walk so I’m not the best person to advise on which ones.
