Manchester winter series 10k

For those who are just starting the C25k, you may be thinking 'I could never do a 10k'. Well I would have agreed with you back then - a lot has changed since I graduated in Jan 15. I have done 16 parkruns and joined Hedon Fitmums & Friends running group. With their encouragement (and training plan), I signed up for the winter run last October. Sunday saw the Winter series 10k in Manchester. 28 of us went from Hedon with much hilarity on the journey despite the early start. The winter runs are great fun with polar bears, snowmen, penguins, fake snow and a samba band ! (also hills/inclines - we only have gentle undulations in this part of E. Yorks) !!

As a Stoke City fan, it was a bit odd running around the Etihad stadium (home of Man City) but I coped ! This was my first 10k and although I had followed a training plan, I had no idea of how to pace it at the right speed but I must have done ok as I finished in 73 minutes (I was aiming for around 76 minutes so well chuffed) !!

I did the first 5k of the run in a minute and 13 seconds less than my parkrun PB !!! Not sure how but I intend to get back to parkrun and take some time off that PB !! The bling is lovely (photo won't upload) sorry I missed seeing Sazzle, I did see Gra arrive at the finish (he went with the earlier start for the faster folk :-)

Happy running everyone, I can't stop smiling, so happy !!!

73 minutes! Your feet have wings! Well done it sounds a blast. I graduated in December and have got up to 10k .. Which I try and do once a week. Would love to take part in some events snd have started to look at what 2016 has to offer.. Ready to take the plunge I think ✌️

Brilliant Sue ! Well done ! I have been looking out for your write up !

They are already taking entries for next year ! I am definitely doing it next year . Once I get my finances straight within the next couple of months , I'm going to enter it .

Didn't you do well ? Fantastic !

It's very impressive isn't it the Etihad campus . Did you go around the running track next to the football ground ? Usain Bolt actually ran on there when he was in Manchester for the City Games the other year .

My hubby always comes out in a rash when ever we go near the site , cos he's a Red . Ha ha !

It's great taking part in these big events isn't it and get you with a PB too ! Fab !

Really glad you enjoyed it , and theres always the GMR in May if you fancy it ?

Congratulations ! :-) xxx

Congratulations, that is a fab time and going as part of a big group must have been a lot of fun. I fully plan to do the London one next year - if just for the snow and the polar bears! Well done!☺

Thank you ! Do give it a go, it was great fun. Being high fived by a penguin is clearly good for getting a PB !! x

well done - sounds like a fun event

like the sound of your fitmums and friends group - sounds less daunting than a full on running club

Thanks ! Fitmums and friends is a much less daunting prospect than some running groups! When we go out on runs, we 'shepherd' back from the front to keep the group together - it's very supportive.

they do that at the run group a tried - they called it muster - I like shepherd :)
