Bit of a downer...

Been consolidating for a couple of weeks, and decided to try the stepping stones podcast, to up my very slow pace a bit, although when I listened to it yesterday I thought it sounded too fast. But it wasn’t, and I managed to run all the way through. Was very pleased to be feeling comfortable during the run, but very disappointed when I checked my pace at the end, which was slower than it’s been for weeks! Can anyone recommend similar podcasts that gradually increase pace? Cheers!

You have to run slow to be able to run fast. You have to run slow, further to qbuild running legs, core and upper body then you’ll get quicker. The mixed tempo,Stepping Stones podcasts are awesome. Do them to death 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️

Why a downer Bettyb. You state you felt comfortable during your run & you ran all the way through. I think you should be very pleased with your achievement. Speed will come with time 👍🏻

Thank you, I suppose I was just being a bit silly, and I should remember what it was like not to be able to run at all!!

Not silly at all. Just enjoy your runs minus the head gremlins 👍🏻

The same thing happened to me! But maybe that suggests our pace wasn’t too slow after all? 😊

Sounds like some confusion here, but don't fret.

The Stepping Stones podcast is about increasing your cadence - the rate at which your feet strike the ground. If you're taking rapid small steps, then your pace (i.e. speed) won't increase. But that's not what the podcast is trying to do.

If you do the Speed podcast (i.e. intervals) that will strengthen your legs. Strong legs equals slightly longer strides. Longer strides plus rapid cadence equals increased speed. But these things will take a bit of time to develop.

What you're doing now is building multiple abilities: running with a consistent footstrike (cadence); running with longer strides (intervals) and running for longer (endurance).

It will all come together, but only one training approach won't do everything. Strength, speed and stamina are all out there waiting. You'll get there :-)

Yes I think you’re right about the confusion! And thanks for making that clearer for me. 🤗
