Can I really run 5k in 30 mins?

Hello support network 😊

So, I've just completed week 6 and absolutely loved the 25 min run. Never thought I'd hear myself say that! But I'm still only clocking up 3k. I know I've got 3 weeks to go so maybe 5k by then is achievable. But I'd like to hear from you and see what sort of distances people were managing by the time they graduated. If I don't manage it, is Michael Johnson just going to be relentlessly encouraging and make me keep going til I actually hit 5k?!

You don't have to get to 5k at graduation. The vast majority of us didn't. I was running about 3.5k at graduation. The only requirement is the 30 min run. The 5k can come later, so just enjoy the 30 min runs and don't worry about distance! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

yep as others have said its not the distance, but the time . enjoy it :-)

The biggest majority don't achieve 5kon graduation..if I remember correctly I was around 4k..

The real aim of the program is to get you running approx 30minutes 3 x a week to build on a regular running regime ..and then consolidate and build from there..

Hi, well done for nailing week 6. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Ive just finished week 8, three 28 minute runs, and am only going 3k. My plan is get to 30 mins, do it a few times to banish the gremlins and then at least once a week work on increasing my speed.

Have a blast with week 7.

90% of people don’t manage it on graduation.

The aim of the programme is to run for 30 minutes three times a week.

C25K is a more catchy name that the more accurate "C2r430m3xi1w"

The 5k isn't necessary. It should b called the couch to 30min. I've graduated and ran 3 times a week for the last 5 wks and sun 4 park runs. It's only the last 3 that I've got 30 and sub 30. But I believe that's the competitive streak in me. You're doing brilliantly. Keep going and you'll manage it...but don't beat yourself up if it's not within the 9 wk. 😁

It can be done, but like many things in life, the size [or distance] isn't important! What others say about the time running is far more important.

Heartiest congratulations on getting to where you are... you ARE a runner.

hang on in there, finished week 9 two weeks ago and now running 35 mins (3 mine extra first week, two this) and I'm still shy of 5k but getting a bit quicker. It will come just celebrate running for greater lengths of time.
