So i graduated couch 2 5k last week. 2nd post consolidation run today - and the slight knee niggle from last week has turned into a full blown knee pain. Enough to stop my run today. I managed 1k running but just knew the knee wasn't right and took the decision to walk the rest of my run. So tonight its ice, stretches, and a few days of flat treadmill walking to see if i can settle it down before it gets worse. Bit down in the dumps as i was finally seeing some good results in body shape from the running, but i know if i'm not careful i'll be out for ages and i don't want that π₯π₯

Dreaded post graduation injury π
Oh no π Here's hoping it heals quickly.
If it doesn't see a physio and quickly. Fingers crossed you'll be on your feet again soon. Assorted knee/hip problems knocked me out for a month, so don't push yourself and find a trained professional to help you out okay.
Hope you're running around again soon xx
My problems only began once I had completed.
For me seeing a sports physio was necessary. Hope you can get going again soon, but don't push too hard, you just end up on the IC for longer.
Thank you for the advice guys. Its my own fault i think, for overdoing it - although i didn't complete W9 R3 until last wed, i also did an interval session on the monday, and 2 mile runs on the Tues and Fri. Too much, too soon.
I will lay off the running completely unril its healed, and then try some short runs with walks. And not get ahead of myself this time!
I think itβs really tempting to run daily - but reading around I do think your body needs the rest to repair. Hope you get better soon
Great decision... when the pain strikes or stabs carrying on just makes the recovery longer. Walking that treadmill will maintain you and youβll bounce back pretty quickly.
Niggle is alright, usually, but 'full blown pain' in never alright. There's reason for it and I would go and check it out. Of course, it's easy for me to say that now, but when it happened to me I ignored it all and ploughed on, full steam ahead, until it ballooned and I couldn't walk, let alone run. That (first) injury cost me 9 weeks (of non running), repeated program (that wasn't too bad) and (£££ MasterCard - physio took other cards as well). Do not follow my example!
Wow, that's everyone's worst nightmare! Hope you heal quick! Plenty of ice, hot baths, antiinflammatory meds and a daily massage and you'll be fighting fit in no time!
Congratulations on graduating .Im so sorry to hear about your knee and the advice from others sounds right. I too am having knee issues. I have just started doing the longer runs (20 mins plus) and after the second time my knees were really hurting. My friends are advising new shoes. But I would be interested to hear other experiences.
I tend to put an elastic support bandage on any niggles and am building up quite a collection for different body parts!
Ice, foam rollers and tennis balls all do wonders (and are cheap too).
