Hi first time posting 5 years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. So I thought I need to change my life and living as I was unfit obese and drinking far to much. I had abused my body for the past 20 years and now at the time I was 46 it was the next 20+ years I wanted to live and be healthy to see my 6 children grow and have families and be able to walk my daughter's down the isle.
That we 5 years ago I still have type 2 and I am still obese, however i stopped drinking and lost nearly 3 stone just by not drinking. I also decided to stop being a plasterer and go back into education. After going to college for 2 years i graduated this year from Sunderland Univedsity at tge age of 51.
I know have stopped smoking for 7 years, drinking for 5 years and exercised on and off until this year when my doctor suggested I have a gastric band to loose weight and rid the type 2 diabetes.
This pushed me to take my diet more seriously and loose that weight without help from a operation. Since I have lost a further stone through a low carb diet and now and have since gone vegiterian ( early days ๐).
I seen my doctor last week and my results had come back
cholesterol was 4
Blood pressure normal
Sugar level now down to 50 ( it had been up to 64)
I am still over weight so decided to do this couch to 5k. I have just completed my second day on the first week and i am feeling really good. My legs and knees are aching, however I am determined to complete this and may be next year enter a 5 or 10k run for the first time in my life..i hope you all don't didn't mind the little bio about me as I am still on this journey and would like to share it with people.
Thankyou
Chris

Hi Chris, good to read your story - sounds like you've made so many positive life changes already that I see no reason why you can't smash C25K too! Keep going!
Wow Chris! Congratulations on your hard won changes so far! These are huge achievements in their own right! Now youโre tackling the last piece of the puzzle. All the very best for your C25k journey. Be careful but enjoy the process, and weโll all be here to cheer you on towards graduation and beyond!
Well done! Youโre doing a fab job! The app is great. Stick to this forum as the support is fantastic! And remember to slow down and slow down again as the runs get longer. Nice to have a north easterner on the forum! Weโre few and far between ๐๐ฝ
A lot of any running plan comes down to determination. Thereโs always a tough run and strong minds push through it. So, youโve decided to beat diabetes, youโve lost weight, beaten the nicotine and cut drinking, and a degree! Lots of determination in that bio for sure. Low carb and vegetarian must be hard too. All in all, you have all the tools to get yourself through this. Some aches are normal, and week one is a worthy opponent for those of us (99% of us) that were sat on the couch the day before it. Youโll be doing a 5k soon, and Iโm sure youโll also do a 10, maybe further. Check out parkrun... those guys love us C25K guys turning up and doing our workout before walking the rest. Theyโre welcoming and supportive, just like us, and you should meet your local running club there. Lots of the clubs have C25K sessions if you want to do some of this with running buddies.
Hello there, Welcome to the forum. This is a great place as all are very supportive and soon you can do a good run. I never ran since I left school but last week i finished my C25k and graduated so you can do it. Well done for working on your drinking and BS. If you can focus on your diet and become low carb, you could even put your diabetes into remission. The key is to bring down your 10 to 15% of total body weight and stay low carb. Good luck.
Hi Chris - thanks for sharing your experience - fantastic that you've joined the programme and get forum. Lots of lovely people here who are incredibly supportive and have lots of great advice. As everyone says (because it's true) learn to run slowly first.
From one diabetic to another (type 1) sounds like you are on an awesome journey, stay strong and focused and listen to your body. If there is one piece of advice i could give it would be this.... you are in control, let the diabetes live with you not the other way round. โบโบโบ
Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like you have all the determination you need to get you through C25K, and everyone here will be cheering you on. Enjoy your journey ๐
Hello to you. What an amazing story and changes you are making. I never cease to be amazed. Take the programme steady. It really is life changing. Gently Bentley!
