Running with a newbie. Why was flat not good?!

Well my new running partner (aged 9) changed her mind overnight and agreed to another run. Fantastic. I took the suggestion that because of our differing paces we could run opposite directions round the local park and 🙌🏻 as we passed each other. The park is very flat ✅ but featureless 👎🏻 so although I’m sure I ran less than last time I felt tired 😑 and demotivated as I plodded round. I missed my usual markers, small challenges (uphill now) and most of all I missed my run back to the start. No matter how tired I am I know once I’ve turned round to head home I’m on the ‘downhill’ and I’ll get there. Running back to pass a big tree doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid. Anyway the little ginger one completed W5R1 whilst also managing to talk to Siri and take photos!! Hats off to all you treadmill runners - not sure how you can do that. Good news is she’s keen to keep going. Bad news is she wants to go round the park again!! Go IGW!! We can do it together (just pray for me when she gets to week 9 though!!) 🙏🏼 🤣

I’m so sorry 😂. Well I dunno, your running mate enjoyed it.

Have a chat with the council about getting some nice new features in.

Well done to you both.

It’s a case of getting what I wished for!! I’ve a feeling she won’t be out with me every run so I’ll still get to choose sometimes. 😃

Shock horrors, run the park again 😱! Kids, eh?! You’ll be out running her by week 9, for sure - possibly. Anyway, enjoy and just smile!

Flat is nice, I used to run by the sea, when I started, but it does become dull. I clung to my route for ages. Then bravely I tried running in different places. Maybe you just have to be brave too and try running somewhere else, can be a good motivator, and you might feel less tired.

Mind you school holidays are exhausting! I’ve just had my 6 year old grand daughter all week and I’m shattered. Handing her back to her dad this evening - phew 😅, happy days 🌻

I’d love to keep to my usual routes but she found it too long when we did that on Wednesday. I have a few routes I usually mix about a bit that are paths and beside fields so that’s why I found the park tedious. I’ll get her back there once she’s on the longer runs!! We’ve not had too many grandparent duties this holiday but I feel your pain (I have two lots of 3!!)

With a 9 year old you are never in control - they manipulate you! Good luck for W9 Syb!

I’ll need it. I’m a few steps ahead of her but not for long! Whose bright idea was this?!! 🤣
