Hi Just finished W9R1, a couple of days later than planned but what the heck, it just means I will graduate on Monday instead of this Friday, starting to vary the routes a bit now as I am getting a bit more confident (don't care if neighbours see me now). I suppose I should invest in some decent running shoes, any suggestions, I currently use sketchers, they are fine but the tread gets full of stones and at some point they are going to break through into my shoe.
Really excited about graduation.

I got caught by neighbours son twice in one run, outbound and inbound, doesn't sound to bad but he's a 28yr fitness guru, and there was a definite smirk on his face. Where would I go for a gait analysis?
There are specialist running stores, which google will find your local one for you. Some do gait analysis for free, others charge around £20 but then give you a voucher off your shoes. Failing that if you have access to a treadmill you can have a friend film you and submit the video to sportsshoes.com (others maybe available) and they will analyse it for you. Full instructions are on their site. Your favourite brand may or may not do shoes that are perfect for you, though the big running brands will.
Well done on reaching week 9, I agree you definitely deserve some proper running shoes. They will make a big difference. I also suggest you invest in a gait test and the knowledge of a specialist running store.
Don’t be afraid of the clearance table when you get there, you can save $$$ that way.
I like brooks and ASICS, but everyone is different. Go with what feels good.
Look in the pinned posts : FAQ Posts open that one and there are two to help you, one on which Shoes to buy and one on gait analysis. Gait analysis one below I can’t post the other one or I will lose this post!
When you get your new shoes don’t forget to post a picture of them. We do like a bit of shoe bling/envy around here 😀
Hi, I have just had my gait analysis done for free by runners needs, they have quite a few shops across the country. Prices on the shelf were about £90 to £120 , but I made off with a pair of last seasons for £56 down from £120. I didn’t feel pressured to go for anything more than that and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable
As others have said, definitely get a gait analysis. Whereabouts are you? You can probably get local recommendations.
Once you know the kind of shoes you need for your pronation, I tried on 3 brands I'd never heard of before:
- Brooks
- Saucony
- Asics
All were specialist runners and very comfortable. However, I went with the advice on here and picked the most comfortable, which for me were the Brooks Ghost. This is probably because my feet are rather wide.
