Good afternoon, just wandering what you guys do on rest days? I’ve been doing just that... resting no real exercise, apart from housework etc! As not wanting to tire my legs out further. So just a thought, should I be doing something else? I am a gym member by the way 🤦🏽♀️🤣
Rest days?: Good afternoon, just wandering what... - Couch to 5K
Rest days?
Keeping moving is recommended, we walk, one body weight workout a week, one yoga and something random from our training app on another. If there’s a day 7 it’s couch day lol. I’ve been injured so just doing rest days, tried not to sit much. Young one has been having her couch day but now wants to go to a six day week.
Anything but running/nothing.
Hi! I do a Pilates class once a week so I have carried on doing that, which is on one rest day, and I try to do yoga on another. Up until now (I have just completed week 4) I haven’t wanted to do anything too strenuous involving my legs because I didn’t want to overdo it, so I stopped going to my Legs Bums Tums class which fell on another rest day, however now I have started doing some squats /lunges or a quick aerobics routine at home if I get the time/urge! Weekends are for relaxing at the moment, I might go for a leisurely walk but that’s it! Once I get further into the program I might go back to LBT class as well.
I try to go walking. Even a long walk doesn’t seem to tire the legs for the following day’s run.
You can do anything on rest days, anything you chose to do or not to do 😁 apart from run, no running on rest days.
Strength exercises are great.
As we feel the need to move more we do a little more walking, swimming, sports, classes at gym, elliptical, rowing machines bikes into our week 😊 have fun and do what you feel you want/can 😊
I walk my dog, do some yoga and I also do some tiny weights! I pretty much do something every day, only very rarely have a total couch day. 😀
In July, I challenged myself to cover 150 miles on foot, including whatever mileage I did for C25K (weeks 4-7, and it only came to about 25 miles), so I had to do a lot of walking in order to nail the challenge, which did not leave time for much else!
Generally, though I walk just about everywhere to get to places where I need to be, even when I go shopping. If I need to walk back 1-1.5 miles (depending on where I've been), with heavy bags, I count that as extra strength training It means that I sometimes walk 3-6 miles in a day without really noticing it until I synch the Fitbit.
In addition, I do weight training at the gym, usually twice a week and sometime do my scheduled run beforehand, starting and ending at the gym. Also, I have just discovered a Pilates instructor I really like at the gym so hope to attend his classes twice a week from now on. Other classes I've tried have been less successful. I couldn't cope with spinning or with classes that need lots of dance skills or excellent balance/flexibility, where I think people are probably laughing at me.
I have also recently found out that I can swim for free in a really good pool as I'm over 60 and I have acquired the necessary card. I hope to start that next week when a big swimming event finishes and opening times revert to normal. Again it will be a 1.5 mile walk each way to the pool, with the added motivation that otherwise I would have to pay parking charges there.
It can be difficult to juggle with time when I have a lot of work on. There is always the risk that everything else falls by the wayside and suddenly I've not been active for a week or two, after which it is a real battle of will to get started again. I'm being quite strict with myself now and not letting more than two days go by without doing something, even if it means missing out a bit on sleep to get everything done.
I used to do body combat/ body attack 5 4 or 5 times a week. Now I'm doing c25k I run my 3 days a week and do my classes still on my rest days. I have 1 day a week where I don't do anything.
Hi, i run 3 days a week, do Kettlebell workouts and jumping rope (skipping) 3 days and boxing training once a week. On my rest day, i tend to have a long walk as well as stretching. You've gotta let the body repair and recuperate.
