Hard work this week - timing conundrums

There’s always something isn’t there? This week I’ve had a tummy bug that seems to be turning into a cold, unless it’s hay fever, who knows! It’s been quite frustrating and I’ve only done one piddley 16 minute run since last Saturday. So yesterday, wimped out of Parkrun because I couldn’t wake my son up for it, my hip and tummy were sore, lungs feeling hayfevery so it really wasn’t worth it. However, now, if I do that I make sure I do a 5k run to make up for it as soon as possible. Don’t get out of it that easily!! Son is now on scout camp so it’s back to doing it on my own this morning. Tummy and hip were behaving themselves, so out I went.

So, now according to Strava I’ve only 1.24 minutes to go before I reach the fabulous 30 minute mark, which differs from the time I got from Parkrun last week (32.19). This morning it was 31.27, despite my lungs feeling like they were full of gunk. When I’m feeling healthy again I reckon I might crack it. Now I promised myself a tattoo (thanks Flaraflarkin 😁😳) when I reached it, so what do I do? Go by Parkrun or Strava? What do you reckon?

We’ve now two Parkrun free Saturdays as we’re off to North and mid Wales (can’t do any tourist runs unfortunately). Running in unfamiliar, hilly (possibly mountainous!) surroundings, I’m just a little scared but the pictures I can put on here should be lovely and will help to make it worth it 😊

Parkrun time isn’t accurate unless you’re right at the front for the go, so will generally be a few seconds out. Strava should be accurate.

Thanks UnfitNoMore, that was my thought too. I’m nowhere near the front, there’s too many tall, fast people there 😳. Parkrun times always seem a bit disappointing. Oooh, very nearly there then 😁!

Yeah, hit start on Strava as you cross the line, on Nike Id have to turn 3 second countdown off, not sure on Strava to be honest.

Some other 5k runs will have chip timing. Think Strava will save PBS too.

Yep, Strava has PBs, very handy 👍😊

And I read you can be the world record holder from your front door to the local shops 😂

Fantastic TailChaser. Well done you!! Tattoo on its way!! 😁😁! Personally I’d use what you use most regularly as your guide. That would mean Strava. Go get that tattoo!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Looking forward to the photos too!! 😁❤️

Me too! Just had a discussion with hubby about tattoo. I’m thinking ducks? Maybe a Hilda Ogden pattern of three flying ones (showing my age now!)? I collect them you see. I did see a nice flying mallard on Pinterest... watch this space... 🦆🦆🦆

Oooh my daughter loves ducks too ( surname Drake) and we managed to find a silver duck ring in a second hand/ vintage jewellery shop. It’s stretched out in flight going round the finger. And fits her perfectly- rare as she has tiny fingers.

Beautiful 😊 I have lots, scattered all over the house, from a line of different rubber ducks on top of a dresser to soap in the downstairs loo that you press the head down and soap (or duck sick as someone suggested!) comes out of it’s mouth 😁.

Exciting that you're getting close to 30 mins - definitely time to start tattoo planning 🙂 Ducks sound most appropriate and I'm sure there are all sorts of interesting possibilities.

Whereabouts in North Wales are you headed? Really looking forward to seeing your photos!

I think so too. Found some nice ones but can’t decide between a monochrome or a coloured duck 🤔

We’ll be based near Pwllheli but we usually spend a lot of time walking in Snowdonia (I can never get over how beautiful it is there). I don’t know how much of this we can do this time as hubby is having leg muscle problems but I’m keeping my fingers crossed we can go for at least one big walk if I can ease him into it. I promise lots of photos (if the weather behaves itself!) 😁

Good luck deciding - and don't rush, if you aren't sure then give it a bit more time.

I hope your husband's leg holds out and you get to go on the walks you want to do. Hopefully if you take it easy to start with then it will be ok. It really is beautiful - and I'd be happy seeing photos whatever the weather! I grew up on the edge of Snowdonia and am feeling a definite sense of 'hiraeth', missing the mountains and sea. Enjoy your holiday, and I hope you get some beautiful weather for your walks.
