I’ve done three runs now but my shins hurt so much within 15 minutes of the work out, it feels like they’re going to snap and I struggle to walk. I try to stretch it out to relieve the symptoms during the exercise but I don’t know how to remedy it. I’m not sure if it’s shin splints or something more sinister but OWWWWWW

Are you going really slowly? That’s all that’s needed for the programme. Slow, then slower still

I was the same when starting off. I did mind over mater and wished for every run to run it off. Haven’t had it in a long time now. Try and persevere if it’s shin splints it will hopefully get better quick.

are you striding such that your foot lands under your body? If you run such that your foot lands out in front, this seems to cause shin pain/splints. Keep your stride short! And try to land "lightly" as bouncing seems to worsen shin pain for me. And also think about your shoes as misswobble asks

I can’t think why it would be shin splint if you only just started though 🤔.
Let us know what shoes 🙂

I had the same And for me it was the brisk walk.. I was stretching too far in an effort to speed up a walk I suspect was already brisk. I am in week 9 and my calves stopped screaming in week 7 when I slowed my walk down - they caught up fitness too I think but I also bought a roller and use it morning and night and it was a miracle I wish I had from the start. Sadly I am not sure which was the fix now though🤣
I've been using forefoot or mid foot running, so I don't land on my heel. Heel landing as I used to run gave me all sorts of problems with my knees. If you watch the amazing Kenyan runners in marathons, they all run mid or forefoot. Of course, getting used to this style brings its own issues. Last week, at the start of Wk4 I got some terrible pain in my left calf muscle and I limped back home thinking it was all over. But a weeks rest from running, application of ice and Ibuprofen has worked a treat. Gently does it!, as the others have said.

Have you had a gait analysis?
