W4R1- need a kick up the proverbial...

I did the first 3 weeks all in the 3 weeks and really enjoyed far more than I thought- but for some reason I can’t seem to motivate myself to get out and start W4. Can anyone give me some PMA or a kick up the backside please?

I've just finished week 7 and I've found it more enjoyable/satisfying once you get to the longer runs, so keep going. I remember thinking, 'You want me to run for a full 20 minutes, Michael Johnson? Are you kidding me?!' But once I'd done that first longer run, I felt amazing, and now I genuinely look forward to my runs. You get into more of a rhythm with the longer ones. A banging playlist really helps if you're into your music ;)

I’ve never run for 5 minutes before in my life- should never have looked at what was in store- let alone running for 15/20 minutes!

I know how you feel and I’m sure there’s plenty of others on here who have felt the same. Most of us have not run before or not in many years but have found with encouragement that anything is possible. You will amaze yourself, particularly W5R3. There was no way I thought I’d be able to run for 20 minutes but I did it! Now just about to start week 9 and v proud I’ve got this far. And Zutter is right the longer runs do become easier as you get into a rhythm. You can do this just put your trainers on and go for it! Good luck keep us posted 😁

Thanks for the PMA- slowly building up the desire to run and see if you’re both right about the rhythm 😱

Sorry! 20 minutes scared the life out of me too, but you'll be amazed what you can do once you've built up to that stage. Week one, i could hardly breathe.

Don't engage in the internal debate. Set a time and date, put on your gear and go. What's the worst that can happen?

Why did you start this? It's time for some discipline, motivation may never appear on it's own :)

Chouefleurie! You've done so well and your at W4!

Thinking about the start of a new week creates a few palputations in us all. And if not, it certainly did for me. Why wouldn't it, its the unknown. I have had to kick myself up the backside too, (oh so many times!😳). I used to tell myself, "right just get out of the door and do it now!", "You'll just have to see if you can do it and if you're not dead yet, you can do it", "just go slow and if its tough, you just go slower"!. And to my absolute amazement, it has been completed all the way so far.

I take nothing for granted at W9. The hesitation still exists. But tell yourself that you've done the preparation and it is possible, because that's so very true for you. Whoever your coach is, tell them to "come on, were off out the door". They'll look after you and we'll be cheering you on too! MJ is showing signs he's about to drop me in his conversations now, but were not done just yet! We are a team until the very end! ❤️

What made you go out the door the first time? And what made you keep coming back?

helenwheels has the answer - don’t get motivated, get dressed for running and get out 😉
