Week 8 Run 3 - Marmite, tears and dangerous cats!

Hi all - today was the first run I was seriously thinking about postponing.

Why? I hear you cry (or is that just the voices in my head?). My horse went to hospital (horse-pital 😂) yesterday and the result of all the tests was bad news for us so, instead of eating salad and pasta and drinking water last night like a sensible ‘runner’ I ate a chocolate ice lolly and had a couple of large gins..my go-to response when p**sed off - mature I know! Then I woke up at 3am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Got up at 5 as planned and off Dobby and I went - mixed the route up a bit for a change which meant a few small hills but we dealt with it. Until around the corner we ran, happily dealing with the heat and sluggishness, straight into a cat - Dobbys absolute favourite thing to chase/bark at! Needless to say my fantastic (haha) pace and consistency went one way and I went another as the dog pulled me towards the parked car said cat had chosen to hide under. I was so close to becoming attached to the car like some kind of giant, neon fly that my actual life - well the last couple of seconds - flashed before my eyes but luckily I managed to pull her away as hard as I could and continue on mostly unscathed! 😅

The rest of the run was actually ok - the last 5 minutes or so usually take me up a hill back to my house, and I try and gauge it so that bit is my warm-down walk but today I was clearly feeling reckless as I decided to see how much of it I could run - yes, I know! Anyway off we went until that Marmite band Coldplay came on the headphones - I love them and won’t apologise for that!! I sped up waving my arms around like a lunatic and then the tears came - probably a hangover from gin and emotion last night - god knows what the people driving past thought! The sight of a red- faced sweaty neon-wearing sobbing mess with a knackered dog running next to her! Still - I bloody did it! I ran up the hill for an extra 5 minutes so in theory did 33 minutes! Can’t believe it!

Oh yes - a quick footnote - as I was doing my actual warm down walk Pharrell told me ‘you’re the hottest b**ch in here’ - I wonder how he knew?? Spooky!

Onwards to final week 😜 so happy! 😊

Very sorry to hear about the horse, but your ability to write a great post is unimpaired.

Haha! Thank you - running does take your mind off negative stuff, but think it is going to be a difficult few weeks - life does that sometimes! :)

Aww life throws us curve balls now and again, and running is proven to be good for our mental health so I hope you released some of that pent up emotion caused by your upsetting news, and reaped the benefits of your run 😊 Sending love to your horse ❤

Great post. Kate Bush “Running up that hill with no problem” went through my mind.

Sorry to hear about the horse situation. Hope things resolve as well as they can.
