Scorcher!!

So - after much dithering and arguing with myself around soaring temperatures and busy days at work - I finally managed to persuade myself that my next consolidation run was a good idea!

Armed with water for the first time I ventured out in to 26 degrees and immediately hated my water bottle!

After 0.5k I made a deal with myself that I would only do half my usual route as it was really not a pleasant experience.

I flitted from shade to shade and tried to control my breathing and get in to a rhythm - it never really happened!

What did happen is that I met the new running club who are only a few runs in to their 12 week programme to run for 30 minutes without stopping.

I could see myself of a few months back and they were all doing it heads up and giving it everything.

I had a word with myself - slowed down some more - glugged more water and got to the end of a very challenging 5k - really slow but I got there.

I really thought I may vomit and I had jelly legs for the first time - but hoping the stamina will be increased!

I now award myself 2 rest days as I have put in a lot of running in the last week.

Hats off to everyone out there today and over the coming week - keep up the fluids and believe in yourselves - just think how easy it will feel when it cools down 😜😜

OMG Penelopesimmons, I do feel for you running in 26C, this afternoon I was in the shade of my garden but I was also thinking of runners who might be out in that heat, I did a short consolidation run this morning, in fact, it was W1, I will be running a full 30 minute one on Wednesday as early as possible to avoid the heat later in the day, I just hope from now on you can run as early as possible during this heatwave.

Alas AIMorr as a specialist nurse, I start work early, and as a very definite NOT morning person I take my hat off to those of you out at silly o clock! I won’t inflict my grumpiness on my family by getting up any earlier - I doubt I could do it anyway 😝too lazy 😂

Ok, I understand, nurses are the life and soul of any country, I used to be a postman, was one for 20 years, got up at 4.30am, of course, I walked many miles in any day, so I do understand why you do your runs at the time you do them.

Have to admit I struggled tonight - having done the same run easily a couple of days ago (week 4 run 2). Was just incredibly hot. When I got home it took a while to cool off. Will definitely appreciate it when it cools down again. Well done for finishing!!
