First run ✅

Was a bit scared if I can make it. My legs and muscles did it easily but need to learn how to breathe right.

I have diagnosed osteoarthritis already almost 20yrs ago with problems and both knees operated at 16 and other when was 18, and doctor told me 2001 to avoid any sports that would create too high impacts to knees but I wanted to still try. Will be careful but also too scared of not having strong enough muscles to support my joints. So hopefully could finish this. Fingers crossed 😉

Well done! Just breath as normal, but mainly through the mouth for running with maybe occasional deep breath through nose, if you are panting a lot, it should calm down as you go on and get fitter, don't worry about it though..

If you're not getting pain that's great! Try not to slam your feet down on striking the ground, there's a heck of a lot of force going through the legs when running, I think oldfloss says try to gently kiss the ground with your feet.. another that should help is running on grass and trails which has a bit more give than road running, if you can vary the surfaces you run on, all well and good.. see the link below for new runners..

would knee strengthening exercises be appropriate? There's a set on the NHS website somewhere. I used to do them while sitting down at my desk. Good luck! Oh and if you get troubles, do go back to a doc ... but maybe not your 2001 one :)

Your breathing will sort itself out. Mine settled once I got through 5-8 minute runs.
