So today I had to stop my run ( W3 R2) as I felt something wasn’t right. I had shooting pains from my knees to my ankles, I’m gutted I felt I was really progressing ☹️😬. What are everyone’s tips and how do you go about carry on with the couch to 5K? Thanks 😊

ooh sounds nasty, poor you! Sounds like shin splints (?).

Often the root of pains is the wrong shoes. Have you had a gait test? Good running shoes do make a big difference. Im not an expert, so I hope someone else with better knowledge can comment.

Try to run on a surface with few bumps, like a well trodden path or road or treadmill.

Make sure you are having a rest day between runs.

I think you ought to rest for a couple of days too.

Sorry, this is probably all very obvious to you. I don't mean to sound condescending,

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, I’m considering getting gait analysis and purchasing new trainers, have you had gait analysis and do you recommend it? I think I will have to rest 😊

I used to run quite a lot a few years ago, so I had gait tests back then. They are free. They just want to help to recommend the correct shoes, maybe you over pronate or under pronate. Go to a specialist running store for best advice. Having had a gait test they will recommend shoes, ask what sort you need and why. A good pair of shoes can make you feel kinda springy when you run. It really does make a huge difference having the right shoes. They will probably recommend several pairs, pick whichever ones feels good, ignore the price (as in don't let yourself be persuaded that one pair is better than another because they cost more.). I like Asics, but it really is a personal preference. Think of it as a treat because you have done well and don't want to get injuries.
