So, I’ve don’t something crazy. Again.

I’ve started the C25K program a week after entering the ballot for London next year.

I have no illusions I’ll get in on the first try, but there we go. I needed something towards to, to get me started running in the first place.

So, what does one do when one sees the number of total entries for the ballot?

One enters the Big Half. Which is 6 weeks prior to the marathon.

Why am still considered sound of mind, baffles me. I’m not even on week 5! 😱😂

I think a half marathon in 12 months is doable. What do you think oh wise IannodaTruffe ?

Absolutely!

I have known graduates doing a full marathon within a year of C25K, but it was a struggle at times and those longer training runs are best built up to on a gradual basis. Training for longer runs can seem like a real slog, defined by a training plan, rather than the desire to run the distance. A half in that time is a very different prospect, allowing you plenty of time to get comfortable with those longer duration runs, without them dominating your entire running life.

Please be aware that you are asking the opinion of a non competitive runner who has never run a marathon, nor in fact quite completed a half marathon distance, although the latter is on my radar for the near future, as I build my distances back up after an uncalled for interruption to my running.

If you want to do it, of course you can.

Thank you both! I’m not looking to do a half or whole one with a time goal. Just finishing one would be an achievement of a life time for me. And, to be honest, I’m more focused on doing a 5k first and hopefully a 10k. But I thought I’d enrol, just to keep me going. If I don’t make it, it’s not the end of the world (I hope 😂).

I all fairness: I have no clue as to where this running thing will lead me to, but I’m looking forward to the journey!

I’m just over the moon I’ve been able to do a five minute, non stop run, for the first time in over 30 years. So I’m taking in every minute I’m given, since it’s been too long and I have no way of knowing how long it’ll last. 😁❤️
