Running to help cope with bereavement...

Just done my week 5 run 2 run... When I randomly decided to set out on this journey and start the c25k, I had no idea I’d then be dealing with the loss of my husband a few weeks later. (He was in hospital for 8 months, which I think is partly why I started the program, to give me some head space. But his death was still totally unexpected). I find that running is really helping to keep me sane... Just felt the need to share this :)

So sorry. He would be very proud of you. Glad running is giving you a focus. That's important. My first husband died suddenly and I had my horses to keep me going. Something to get up for. Sending you hugs xxx

Thank you all for your replies. I’ve kept the running up - up to week eight now! And finding that it does help. I’ve found the last week or so pretty tough, but just trying to keep busy. Got two children who keep me going.

Hoping to do my first park run once I’ve completed week 9!

Thanks for all the support 😊 x

Well today has turned out ok. It would’ve been my husband’s birthday today, so I was a bit anxious about how I’d cope. But I kept busy (play group, baking, seeing my friend and my mum).

Then this evening I ran my first 5km, woohoo! And I have to say that it soooo helped to lift my mood 😀

Hope you’re all having a good week and enjoying your runs xx

Thanks for sharing. I’m in a similar situation to you. I lost my husband last year and have 2 children. I’m on W6 and, like you, find it really helps. My husband’s birthday is this Friday and I have a run scheduled for the morning. It’s a very difficult time but running definitely clears your head.
