Feeling miserable and sore

Was into 20mins on W6R3 and feeling ok when I got a sharp cramp like pain in my right calf and had to stop. So now nursing a calf strain and feeling very sorry for myself and frustrated as I felt I was doing well. Having to limp about and accept I need to rest it for a bit. Keen to not lose my momentum but it looks like I am going to have to take it easy for a bit....

I am also cross with myself as I ran in new running shoes and maybe didn’t give my muscles a chance to get used to them? Also maybe I should have stretched before the run ? Any thoughts?

☹️

No, I don't think stretching before would have been a good idea, and I can relate to your disappointment. It may not be a strain, a painful cramp is enough to stop you in your tracks.

I'm sure others will advise. When my husband had a calf injury he was using a foam roller, as well as the enforced rest, but so much depends on the level of your injury .

Maybe make sure the new shoes are the right ones for you before you go again .🙁

You could try elevating and icing it.

Put your foot up and place a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel on it for 20 mins every so often.

Rest from running. Hope it gets better soon😊x

I'd agree with Jell. Sounds more lie a cramp than a strain.
