feeling sore

never ever did I think I would get to week four and today is my last run in that section. I’ve checked out next week and all I can say is oh hell what have I done 🤣 it’s gonna be tough that’s for sure!!

my problem is despite doing pre and post run stretches I cannot get my calves to loosen off, as soon as I start running/jogging they tighten up and by the end of the run they are so sore. Anyone have any suggestions for this please? I’ve got a foam roller but wow is it sore to use on them, is it a case of no pain no gain?

Well done you for getting this far!.

Pop across the strength and Flex form for lots of ideas to support those calves.. As the runs get longer we do need to support our running body well.

E.g..

healthunlocked.com/strength.......

Loads of other posts on calf support too. Make sure you are well hydrated and doing some rest day exercise will help any minor muscle tears and the build up of lactic acid.

Week five. just follows on naturally from week 4. You are ready for it.. check this out and feel reassured. You can do this !

Make sure those calves are feeling easier before you head out x

Thank you very much for the encouragement and the advice/links they are really appreciated. I’ve been having 1 test day between runs then 2 rest days before starting a new week. Maybe I need to adjust my rest periods according to how the previous run went?

🍏 Wow you have done well to have completed week 4🙌 However There is definitely no need for sore calves. Take an extra rest day or two, before starting week 5 ensuring you don’t start with any pain! Here are some S& F ideas for calves plus our Strength & Flex Forum will have lots to help you!

Do all the runs very slowly!! Slow is the answer! If you feel them tightening even slower!! Let us know how you get on!

Thanks very much for the link and the support, I’ll certainly be reading that later. I’m taking runs slow (well it’s actually a very slow jog) but still getting sore calves. I’m not sure I can’t sow down any more or I’ll be doing a fast walk, maybe it’s just because I’m not very fit, the way I’m jogging or I’ve not for the right trainers yet, but hopefully I’ll get them sorted one way or another 😊

🍏 Ah… trainers make such a difference!! I too delayed getting them when I first started & had lots of problems. Once I had a gait check & my new trainers I never looked back!! 😳Can you believe it I ran in walking sandals for four weeks!! 🙈

Another call out for the right trainers! Properly fitted running shoes make a world of difference, they sort of add a bounce in the right place so you somehow use a bit less energy with each stride.

I can't run for five minutes in 'ordinary' trainers but put me in my running shoes and I can go forever (well, for a lot more than 5 minutes :) )

I didn’t want to splash out on running shoes if I didn’t like running so I’ve been using my ASICS gel trainers because these are the only ones I thought might be better for running in but possibly not! I’m going to get my gait checked next week and then hopefully I can look at getting some proper running shoes.

Omg you ran in sandles for 4 weeks! 😳 your legs & feet must have been killing. I’m going for a gait check next week and then I’ll look at get some proper running shoes.
