HELP!! I am failing some of my runs by a few seconds. If I knew I only had a few seconds to go I'm sure I could have got there. I wish the App would give you a time check. Any ideas of how to do this? Thank you.

I keep my phone in my hand and when I feel like I can't go on sneak a quick peak and it helps with that extra motivation

Hi, just make sure you always start your run very slowly, your aim is to be able to complete each run interval.

You may be running too fast which is why you are running out of steam...

The program works by slowly building your stamina, there is no need to push hard, just a gentle jog is all thats required. It is not easy, but it is doable.

The coach on the app tells you when you are almost finished and you should try to keep going until they say stop... A few seconds shouldn't make much difference, but by going slower you will get more satisfying results...

Good luck next run 😊...

Believe me if I went any slower I would stop!

No you wouldn't, and if you cannot complete runs, that is what you need to do, not start clockwatching, which is a really bad habit.

The guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... explains about your easy conversational pace, which will get you through the programme.

Thanks but I'm very new to this. Why is it a bad habit?

Because watching a clock for thirty minutes means your mind is on finishing rather than on the process itself. Forget about time, look at your surroundings, give yourself a running commentary that distracts you from thinking about the countdown......... otherwise thirty minutes will seem like days.

Thanks. I've just read If You Run Slow Who Cares. It sums up exactly how I feel. No one runs as slow as me and I feel very embarrassed about being seen.

I bet I, and many many of us ran as slowly as you.. and it gets us to the most amazing places... forget everyone else.. you just strut your stuff, however slowly!! :)

Thank you

I have Laura on the App & she tells you when you are halfway & then when you have 60 seconds to go. I have to admit that I don't like it when she tells me I'm halfway - but when it gets to the last 60 seconds it's helpful coz you know you can do it then!

I'm only on week 2. They maybe feel it's too early to give me a count down. Not for me it isn't!

I use the ‘One You’ C25K app which has a timer made of coloured blocks which I find much more helpful than the lady telling me how much time I have left

Thanks. I'll have a look

Try this one. You can get the app from Playstore. play.google.com/store/apps/...

You have a coach telling you when to start and stop and also a wheel on your phone with a countdown timer too.

Same app that LeahBeth mentioned to you.

I must admit I always look at the timer to see how long I have left. But this app is great.

Hope it helps.

Use the one you app. You get checks.

Much better to use an app or the podcasts that give you verbal cues or timechecks. That way you can focus on your surroundings which is a lot more interesting :) and also, running with something in your hand (which I assume you're doing?) is unbalancing. Have you tried the C25K app? the One You I think it might be called now. As others have said, run slowly - the running action is different from the walking action so even if you are running slower than you walk, that's fine. Check out the pinned posts, but mostly, keep going - you are doing fine and you will get there!

I am using the App with Sarah Milligan. One You just seems to take me to this App. Should I be seeing something different?

It is the same app. I have swapped from Sarah Millican to Michael Johnson...I find him more motivating. When I started I was also checking the app all the time to see how much I still had to do. About to do wk5r2 today and it's getting easier to not check. I was actually pleasantly surprised when he told me I only had 1 minute left!...Not sure I'll be saying that on run 3 though 😅 My average speed incl. Warm up walk is 6.5km/h so not exactly fast. 🐌

I would suggest that when you get a 2min or 60 seconds left message from Jo (on mine) slow your run right down and bring out your most positive inner voice! “Keep going” or “You’re nearly there” 😊

I guess from your replies, that you think you cannot slow down more..believe me you can.. as the Original Grey Snail... I know there is always slower :)

Just start very gently...and keep that pace... :) Laura on the app does give you the last countdowns.. if in doubt keep running!!

Have you considered listening to a podcast or an audio book while running? I do and I combine it with my comfortably slow pace. It helps distract me and keeps me going till the much anticipated walk 😊 I also do pick spots that are safe but less frequented for those days when I think I can’t quite escape the idea that people might be looking at me (even though this is most definitely in my mind most of the time).

You can do this! I know you can! Just be kind to yourself! X
